Okay, so I was going down a rabbit hole today trying to figure out why Sony has said absolutely nothing while Warner is out here cutting deals with Suno and UMG is making all this noise about stems and artist partnerships.

Like... where is Sony? Why are they so quiet!?

And then I found it.

While Universal and Warner settled lawsuits and started shaking hands with AI companies, Sony just... stayed silent. No deals. No press releases. No friendly announcements about the future of music creation.

Turns out they were in a lab.

Sony quietly built a tool that can identify original music inside AI-generated songs and quantify each contribution as a percentage. Like, it can literally tell you, "30% of this AI track is influenced by The Beatles and 10% by Queen."

Bro... like wtf...

It works two ways. If an AI developer cooperates, Sony connects directly to their base model to pull the training data. If they refuse — and why would any AI company ever agree to that — the system just compares the output against existing catalogs and estimates anyway...

You can't opt out. It works either way.

And the endgame is wild. Sony envisions this becoming a revenue-sharing framework where original creators get compensated based on their actual contribution percentage to every AI-generated track.

Warner cut a flat deal and called it a day. Sony is building the system that tells you exactly what every artist is owed down to the percentage point.

That's not reacting to AI music. That's been planning this whole time while everyone else made noise first.
