Spinning my own wheels
So, I've recently encountered this community and I'm very excited at the idea of creating my own SaaS product and making a business of it. Currently I am employed full time as a junior Full-Stack Developer, and feel like I can make a change into this direction.
However, right now I find myself pouring a lot of my time into researching /rEntrepeneur, the stock market, the tools and stories posted here, looking at various niches, and I fear that I may get stuck in research mode and never really commit to something or find something that I feel confident in making a move in.
For me as someone who is just beginning to develop an interest in this, how should I move forward? I want to do something instead of thinking about doing something.
I think the sources you're looking into: reddit and the stock market are by-products of work.
This is my just way, not to say it'll work for you. I look at who I can help. Who are the people. Not what they do first. Maybe some are defined by their careers or by their work or profession. But that's not everyone.
In my case I just love what's possible by creators online. Video creators, I was one myself and know the struggle to create and launch and monetize a youtube channel or any social media.
I changed my research a few years ago from quantitative to qualitative and that helped me a lot.
Talk to people. Not reddit.
Talk to users. Not the stock market.
Document your talks in some form.
Ask more "Mom Test" questions.
Keep track of any patterns you see. Seek those patterns out to validate or un-validate them.
I used to look at youtube and just study the best... to understand how they became best.
But when I started talking to youtubers who are just starting out, their problems are a lot more real, visceral. I can even start to form solutions for them in my head.
Line up 10 interviews with 10 people in the same field this week. Say you're building something to help them already and you need some feedback.
Build a network and a following. Places like here on IH and Twitter.
Share what you are up to, things that get you excited and your learnings. Talk to people. Help others. Build your own little community.
When you are ready to launch something you will then have a wider support community to help you thrive.
Usually this doesn't happen overnight, so it's worth starting yesterday :)
