Sports, Data, and Grit: Franco Betteo’s Indie Hacking Journey

Franco Betteo, from Argentina, has always had a passion for sports - especially basketball and football. With a background in economics and data science, he built a career in tech but struggled to find purpose in industries he didn’t care deeply about.
In 2020, he began exploring sports analytics roles but found limited remote opportunities in Argentina. After briefly quitting his job in 2021, Franco returned to work but eventually faced burnout again. In 2023, inspired by indie hackers and motivated to build something useful, he created Sportsjobs - a job board focused on analytics and software roles in the sports industry.
Starting with no-code tools and a simple Airtable backend, he scraped and curated listings manually. Marketing was a grind: cold emails, Reddit posts, LinkedIn groups, and slow SEO traction. He bootstrapped everything and landed his first paying customer in March 2024.
Today, Sportsjobs has 50+ users, over 1,000 newsletter subscribers, and generates around $300 MRR. Franco recently took a full-time job again, balancing security with his solopreneur journey. He remains hopeful about the platform’s growth.
