    July Epic

    • Get the Announcr App ready for live demos: 63%

    Yesterday

    • Finished up 2 dayjob projects but then got a second wind in the evening and turned my Announcr coding output rate UP UP UP
    • Created UI to let Locations send Announcements (ie app push notifications) to subscribed customers or users within a radius (2 different costs)
    • Backend work: user radius search by latitude, longitude
    • Backend work: user search by location permission
    • Added Owner Admin UI to the app

    Today

    • Location Feedback UI, table, and Read UI
    • Add pricing/cost to app UI for sending notifications

    Kudos
    @helengriffinjr again for encouraging people

    Work in Progress

    1. 1

      @Davey making me feel loved.

    2. 1

Wow! Sounds like you are powering through. Nice work!

    3. 1

Keep up the good work! Read your post yesterday and seems like you nailed stuff down.

  2. 3

Late, but got the update in @helengriffinjr!

    July Epic

    • Idea validated + chosen

    Yesterday

    • Really starting to firm up the research around problems, need to move onto understanding the market players

    Today

    • Off day, spent it catching up with old bosses & friends; moving up to Hanover NH August, so wanted to make sure I said goodbye to the people who've helped me along thus far!

    Kudos

    • @Davey on riding that second wind to some progress on Announcr!

@Aadhi YES SIR! Nice job! How was hangtime w/ the old crew?

      • How are you going about understanding the market players? "Market players" - are you referring to your competitors or customers you're curious to serve and help?
      1. 2

It's a bit of both. The customers I've spoken with are all from remote-only companies. However, some of the ideas they've given me could be applicable to a broader market than just remote-only co's.

Right now I'm trying to understand the existing market dynamics of the problem spaces they identified (what the sub-markets / potential customers in those markets, who are the competitors in those markets, what does pricing look like, etc.) to see where I could compete. No market is greenfield, but I'd like to make sure I pick an avenue where I have more advantages stacked on my side than not.

Right now I'm leaning towards an idea on the legal / tax side for remote co's. I'm wrapping up research and next step will be to reach back out to the folks I talked to with some of my findings + validating that they've tried existing solutions and it failed for x, y, z reasons.

If those reasons are solvable by me, then I'm just going to commit and go down that route. Otherwise I'll have to regroup and figure out my next steps.

re: hang time - it was so energizing, thanks for asking! I doubled down on the social pressure and told most of them that I'm going to start my own thing. They were all super supportive and it just kinda lit this fire in me. We'll see how long I can ride that high :)

This was helpful for me yesterday.

I'm trying to complete the main functionalities of my web app (sports analytics) by the end of July. This includes the main feature where users put in their information that will later be used for analytics (phase 2).

Yesterday, I refreshed the large main form that users will be putting information into. I still need to add solid validation (messy data is bad for analytics) and then sync up the backend with the changes. It was more work than anticipated. FE work is hard! haha

Today, I go to my paying job that gives me benefits. Later tonight I go to a tech community event to be social and learn more about UI/ Design stuff. I'm a full stack (read mostly BE) developer and gaps in my skills are around marketing / design.

ps. Other accomplishments yesterday included exercising for 45 minutes, eating a healthy dinner and closing computer by 10:30pm. Gotta stay healthy for the long game!

    1. 1

Glad you found us useful! How went the event last night?

      1. 1

Event was great. It's important to have a community that has a mix of different skills.

    KUDOS
@sundaymorningcowboy on shutting down the computer aka work at 10:30pm! C'mon 8:30p - you can do it. Good luck on your main feature (user input)!

    1. 2

Wow! how do you schedule so many discovery calls?

      1. 2

@suddu001 make sure everything, every word you say focuses entirely on the lead's problem. I don't sell anything early because I haven't earned their trust or demonstrate value yet.

        #TIPS

        • Look for people who are already raising their hands asking for help!
        • Don't use pronouns like "I", "me", "myself", or "mine". Instead use "you", your", and "yourself".
        • If I do use "I", it's used to state I like to help. And it's the only instance of "I" in the whole damn message.
        • Or rephrase your message to support the "You" pronouns!
        1. 2

Thank you! I appreciate your help. From your first email, do you think its too much of an ask to get on a call?

  6. 1

01 - soft launch: Have the base application/library, documentation (both manual and API), example instance (?), and build tools publically accessible. Have license terms and sales flow (either contact or direct payment gateway) on the site.

02 - done: Continued prototyping/boxing out a GUI. Have some proposed API EDSL changes from that exploration. Still planning on releasing without the GUI (at least at first) but at this rate the GUI may actually go from only dumb boxes to actually functional soon enough.

sales gateway: Tried stripe for setting up a "license" product and adding a purchase process to a website. Went really smooth. Sufficient features for current requirements. Didn't look into other options like I wanted tho.

03 - Goal today is: Off day. Incorporate yesterday's learning into the API EDSL if I'm able. If I can't I'll read on https://github.com/frugalmechanic/fm-sbt-s3-resolver

    04 - in thread

05 - How do you do screenshots here?
