Anyone who's been doing stand up for more than a hot minute knows that it takes me a long ass time to put together a landing page. But in the name of quick validation, I committed to spitting out a landing page in a week.

Without further ado, introducing Belly Bean.

    EPIC
By the end of September, I've found some cool shit to build for my first iOS project.

    BREAKDOWN

    • Week 1: Determine criteria for "cool shit". Brainstorm "cool shit". Complete landing page for "cool shit" idea #1.
    • Week 2: Brainstorm "cool shit". Validate (or not) "cool shit" idea #1.
    • Week 3: TBD
    • Week 4: TBD

    YESTERDAY

    • Deployed Belly Bean.
    • Completed the SEO basics checklist.

    TODAY

    • Set up validation ad on Reddit.
    • Add a 100 more words of content for SEO purposes.

    KUDOS

      Looks great!

I didn't think there was a topic I had less insight into than women's hair... but it turns out I was wrong :D

Look forward to hearing how it goes. Good luck!

(Laughing!) You and me, both! I've been on a health kick of late and was originally going to build yet another weight tracker app with an extra bell and whistle. But upon doing the SEO research, uncovered this neglected puppy. Figured what the hell... A landing page and a few bucks? I'll give it a go!

    2. 2

Belly Bean it's a lovely name name for the project!

      1. 1

        Thank you!

    3. 2

That's another bad ass landing page. Great work, and great idea!

      1. 1

We shall see! Validation to commence shortly!

    4. 1

      BellyBean is a great name.

      Some feedback:

      • I like how you answered the pressing question right after the fold. Why?
      • "21% of all mamas" — Made me smile. Subtle positioning. It lets readers know that a real person is behind BellyBean.
      • The periodic bolding is a great pattern interrupt. It kept me interested and reading.
      • Great foresight with "Track your way back to pre-pregnancy form" — A natural product extension that also extends the customer lifecycle.
      • The on-page BMI calculator is a nice touch. I think interactive elements can create a little sunk cost while helping you gauge interest by adding some tracking.

A lot obviously went into the copy. And everything serves a purpose.

Have you thought about expanding on what the user experience will be like? I kept asking — "How easy will this be?"

I tend to overestimate difficulty when I don't know how hard something will be.

Overall, I was blown away by how good it looks already. Looking forward to where it goes.

    • list update entries I need to make to documentation (looks like I've got 13 things to add or updated)
    • Had a pain in the butt on Threadbase.io again, but every time that happens I learn something new. I might actually be getting comfortable with Rails and Postgres, which means there may actually be some functionality I could add myself...weird and exciting and not sure I want to do that yet.

    TODAY

    • start laying out base projects for 2 posts
    • frame out the new documentation entries for all 13 pending updates

    WIP
    AutomatedApi.com

    KUDOS
@Janice killer landing again...and belly bean is a great name

    1. 1

      Thank you, kind sir!

What does "laying out base projects for 2 posts" mean? Example, please?

      1. 1

Automated API is intended to make API development dead simple (in many cases a once click affair) so I have to build something in order to demonstrate it.

On tap are simple apps for: daily personal logging, simple inventory management, a recipe manager, tracking a game collection, and I'm thinking about a simple forum (modeled loosely on threadbase) but this last is a stretch.

Might actually publish a couple of them too, because why not dogfood the product, and it's probably a good idea to demonstrate that you could build a legit product on top of it.

    2. 1

Looking forward to reading your articles! This looks like something I would use.

    KUDOS
    Kudos to @janice yet again.
Wow that landing page is killing it. It looks to me that you have a winner there.
You even take kilograms into account, not just pounds. Call me impressed, oh and congratulations!

    1. 1

I'm not sure if that last congratulations is a suggestion that I'm expecting a bean of my own, but... (laughing!) nope. This is the biggest concern of my project. I'm definitely not of the community.

(Grinning) And I couldn't help but think of you when I even considered neglecting kilograms for speed!

      BBQ? Do explain yourself, sir!

      1. 1

Heheh.. I was reading between the lines on the quote "built by mamas for mamas". Always a risk involved in extrapolating things it does not explicitly say.

re. the BBQ. There's a Dutch VMware User Group down here that organizes a few things over the year. One of those events is the yearly BBQ. I figured to show up again at this year's event. While I didn't speak with a lot of people, at least I was able to work on name recognition by wearing the "Vimalin" t-shirt.

  7. 2

By the end of September I plan to finish uidesigndaily.com website (building the front end, edit and upload 900+ designs)

    YESTERDAY (and Saturday)

    • Link up social media
    • Several UI bug fixes

    TODAY

    1. 3

Ah. The website meat and potatoes. Good luck finishing those pages. They can be tedious. But 404s are always fun for creativity. Just finished my own: https://bellybean.app/404

      1. 1

Thank you! Your 404 it's hilarious and really creative! Well done!
