Start 2024 on the Right Foot: The Best Tools for Goal and Progress Tracking

Hey IndieHackers!

As we gear up for 2024, we are all thinking about how to plan our goals to be successful in the new year. Yesterday I posted about some goal-setting frameworks you can use to guide you through the goal-setting process. Go check that out if you need inspiration. Today I want to share the best tools for capturing goals and tracking progress. Having a good tool to organize your goals and progress can make a big difference in maintaining momentum while pursuing your goals.

I’ll start this list off with some of my favorite tools. But I want to hear from all of you, so post a comment with your favorite tool for goal tracking. I'll be continuously adding the suggestions to the main post!

Tools for Capturing Goals🎯

  1. Notion - With thousands of templates, it's a powerhouse for planning and organizing your goals.
  2. Trello - Perfect for those who love the simplicity of Kanban boards.
  3. Google/Word Docs - Sometimes you just need a simple place to jot down your thoughts.
  4. Excel/Google Sheets - This is a great option if you like things in table form or you want to keep track of numeric data with graphs and charts.
  5. Good ol’ Pen and Paper - Research shows that people who physically write down their goals are more likely to meet them.
  6. Plan Quest - An OKR-based planning tool with visual progress bars. Also can break down your goal with AI.

Software Tools for Capturing Progress and Accountability📈

  1. Build Streak - A fun way to keep track and share your building progress.
  2. Beeminder - Put money on the line to incentivize you to achieve your goals.
  3. Habits Garden - A fun way to track and grow your habits.

Other Noteworthy Tools 🛠️

  1. 100 Day Goal Journal by John Lee Dumas - I’ve had a lot of success with this journal. A good way to keep track of progress and reflect over a 100 day period.

Over to You!

Now I want to hear what you all are using. What tools do you use for setting and tracking your goals? Any cool tools by Indie Hackers you want to share? I’ll add any interesting ones to the main post so we can all benefit from a comprehensive list! Personally, I'll be planning and tracking my goals in Notion and using Build Streak to capture my daily accomplishments.
