Starting & failing an eCommerce Brand with $20k+ spent..

Hey there!

I was told to post here after a posted a 44 tweet thread on Twitter about closing my graphic tee brand for the DTC community, Civitas.

I think I linked it correctly, if not, here it is again:

Main takeaways 👇

  1. Start SMALL. Test & iterate from there.

  2. MORE feedback and customer outreach and focus on community — ex: I could have turned it into a small niche "marketplace" site where people could submit their own designs, or have contests, and I handle fulfillment.

  3. Take action and try. Fail FORWARD. The greatest risk of life is getting to the end of it and not taking any risks at all.

Hit me with any questions or feedback!

Starting small and focusing on customer relationships are two big lessons that could have saved me upwards of $60k and two years of my life (three if you count the following year of depression and despair). Congrats on the 66% coursework discount! 😂

    What's next for ya?

      Haha thanks Mick!!

I've been coaching other freelancers and am cranking it up a notch with a full brand and content and community for it now — Ventursom.

EDIT: https://www.ventursom.com/ — coaching, community, courses, newsletter! YouTube and Podcast coming.

Hi Matt, as a fellow brand builder I wonder why you didn't pivot it (per your #2) into something else that's niche, taking advantage of the customer base/attention you'd already built up?
