Hi fellow - aspiring - Indie hackers 👋
Earlier this week I had lunch with a very nice guy I didn't know before. He lives in the same city as I do and he's just starting his indie hacker journey 😄!
We had a super interesting talk about our respective backgrounds and journeys.
At some point, he asked me if I had any advice for him. I was able to give him a few, classics like:
I was very interested in the question and decided to ask my Twitter audience what advice they would give.
Here are some of them:
"It's ok to do stuff just for the sake of doing it. Every action doesn't have to make business sense or be about money/growth. Do things just because it seems fun"
@raroque
"Launch fast. Perfectionism can become your worst enemy."
@ThatsMrBio
"Before developing, find 3-5 people who have done something similar and talk to them 😉 (even if it's very scary)"
@0lga_kad
"Focus on creating a product that solves a single problem, rather than trying to tackle too many things at once or obsessing over profits. Don't bite off more than you can chew."
@Fer_MOMENTO
"Have an idea? create the MVP and launch! The rest you can figure out later."
@arnabghosh_co
"Pick a project you've wanted to do and just start. Spend minimal time planning. Write shitty code. Don't worry too much about the design. And DON'T try to be balanced. Be obsessed."
@jondeparra
"Make a new startup every month or so .Be a part of the community and give. Don't stick with your looser projects"
@nilansaha
"Do it, and try all sorts of things. Embrace failing, and keep trying. Eventually, you'll get there. Don't give up 🙌"
@phillipstemann
"Only compare the you of today, to the you of yesterday."
@RochalaPiotr
"Play the long-term game and ship 100 products. You’ll find success before you reach 100. Be patient, enjoy the ride, love what you do, & do it for fun. There is no luck, there are only accidents."
@5harath through @saigalsn
We're all different, and I know it's very difficult to take everyone's word for it and to learn except by making mistakes yourself. Try to trust the people who have been there before you, even if it's hard!
And you, do you have any original advice for indie hackers who are starting out?
NB: Here's the tweet
This is helpful, thanks a lot. The most common one that I can see is don't try to perfect your product, launch it quickly. As my ex manager would say If you don't have any bugs in your first launch you've launched it late.
Thank you :)
Agree, this is useful advice! I struggled a lot with this in my beginnings 😅
This is helpful info for a new indie hacker like myself. Thanks for reinforcing the idea that doing something, even potentially the wrong thing, is better than continuing to do nothing.
There were periods when we tried to move forward under the most difficult conditions. This did not stop us, on the contrary, it strengthened us. This post will inspire us. Thanks.
THank you , this is helpful. iam stuck in indehackers journey. now i got some clear idea
You're welcome, and good luck to you 🙏🏻
great post.
Thank you 😄
yeah, launch fast, get feedback and understand your customer and then iterate.
+1!!
