Staying Focused on your Goals

My goal is to grow T.LY to be the #1 URL Shortener on the market. There are a lot of Yaks out there but you have to stay focused 🎯

Really resonate with this. Staying focused is hard as a founder, especially when you're juggling so many things. I definitely find myself "shaving the yak" at times. I definitely use the method of listing everything and ordering by priority. Even if I want to work on something else, I stick to the order of the list. Ensures I stay on track and always finish the most important items.

Appreciate your thoughts, Tim! Best of luck with your startup!

As i'm the Bitly users, is it any easy way to transfer from that to TLY?

    1. 2

Yes, we have an import feature if you are using a custom domain. Let me know if you need help.

Nice. I can see this as a polished product; however, isn't this space oversaturated (kind of)? What's your go-to-market strategy?

I think I could give you some help. If you verify t.ly on SaaSHub (https://www.saashub.com/t-ly), I can get it featured on our newsletter. Cheers!

Thanks! Yes, it’s not a new idea but plenty of people still want short links. SEO is a big part of my strategy.

What do I need to do to verify TLY? It looks like it is already verified.

      1. 2

You need to click on the "Verify Link" and have a @t.ly email. It's not verified yet.

Also, what software are you using for your blog? It seems perfectly integrated to the rest of the website.

        1. 2

I’ve logged in with my @t.ly email but I don't see anyway to verify my email.

The T.LY Blog is completely custom using WordPress for the backend CMS. I call and cache all the posts and render them inside my main app. It's worked great and allows a lot of flexibility such as knowing if the user is logged in etc.

          1. 1

That's an interesting approach. And I'd guess you main app isn't Wordpress/PHP.

            1. 2

My main site/app is built on Laravel 👍

Found it. I was able to verify T.LY

There are many tools available. How's this distinct?

    1. 2

I like to say T.LY is a Bit shorter than the competition. But on top of that, my service is more affordable and offers similar features. It's also easier to use for the average user just wanting to create a short URL.

My original goal was to create an alternative for when Google announced they were shutting down their shortener. When Google shuts down a product, it creates an opportunity for smaller businesses to be created.

I am using Bitly from last 4 years, love to try your shortener as well, how it's different from Bitly (any advantages)?

    1. 1

Well, for one, T.LY links are actually short. Bitly and TinyURL have been around forever and have run out of available short links. T.LY is also free to create short links, and if you need additional features, it's more affordable, especially for creators who need a few short links each month. So in my opinion, T.LY is the best URL shortener :)

      Comparing URL Shorteners

Great! I just used t.ly and I found it amazing because its generated URL is much shorter than bit.ly. This is perfect when required to send URLs with messages that need to be kept under 300 characters (like LinkedIn connection messages).

        1. 2

Awesome glad to hear that! I didn’t know LinkedIn limited message length. Thanks for sharing.

  6. 2

I am now going to ditch bit ly and use your tool from now on. I have bookmarked it dont worry

    1. 1

Amazing I really appreciate it! Thank you!

  7. 1

This is a useful product! I don't know how many times I've looked for url shorteners.

  8. 1

How will you differentiate TLY with current URL shorten tools ?

    1. 1

The main difference is ease of use and the URLs are actually short. Also, T.LY is more affordable for users just looking for a few short links.
