Staying in Sync with the Local Tech Community

First time posting here, but have been following this community for awhile.
I was wondering what tools and channels that folks use to figure out what is going on in their local tech community. I moved to the Los Angeles area about a year ago.
I'm regularly scanning meetup, eventbrite, and part of a couple slack channels, but I feel like I'm always missing some cool event or conference happening in the area.
I've found that meetup and eventbrite have a lot of spam/ crap in them these days.
Anyone have any suggestions or platforms that I'm missing?
Apart from mentioned meetup, eventbrite I also use FB events and join particular FB groups that will share their organised events there.
Didn't think about facebook. I've been off that platform for almost 5 years as it's just a huge time suck. I'll circle back to it. =)

Thanks for sharing! I'm signed up to attend that IH Los Angeles meetup. I'll check out reddit / twitter. A lot of hyper connected folks that I know have said that it's mostly just personal networks and forwards from friends.
I think it is true. You find a group of people who introduce you to other people, etc, etc, until you're hyperconnected :) See you at the meetup!
