Staying in touch with beta users - what approaches are you using or would recommend?

Hi all

I'm currently gathering beta users for Jotternaut, which is a (yet another) minimalistic but flexible note taking / task management app.

Ok, self promotion aside, I'm reaching out to some people that participated on my early market validation - mainly the ones that after I reach out took the time to write back really rich emails with many paragraphs of feedback and their experiences.

I will keep this beta users small, I'm aiming to have around 5 active engaged users at this time - I feel that this will improve the relationship with each of them while avoiding too much noise. (is this a good idea btw? Just gut feeling)

But the big question is, as I grow this beta users group, is it a good idea to open channels so they can interact with each other / see other users discussions with me? Or should I keep it email based for now? I'm thinking about using Discord for this.

We're a Fintech as a Service company, we're working with idea/early stage entrepreneurs as Proof of Concepts (or Beta testers if you want).

I always aim to move the conversation away from the formal channels to Whatsapp or any preferred messaging app. This gives you direct informal access to the user and as long as you're not spamming them with questions, they'll be happy. Especially that you're also giving them unrestricted access to you.

If you're solving a problem for them, they'd want to contribute to building that solution and they'd be more than happy to know you're one Whatsapp message away.

That makes a lot of sense, as I know a bunch of people that reply to emails just once per day (or even less)

And the back and forth that instant messaging give is a plus...
