Stepping out into the wild with my first-ever SaaS

The Birth of Bloombeaver

The Idea

Ideally, every new project starts with a problem. In this case, the problem was mine, and I decided to act on it. I wanted to make my own life easier by building a platform that would help me speed up the client acquisition process as a freelancer. Then I thought that maybe someone else would find my idea useful as well, so I started to work on a solution that could serve more than just one user.

The Development

As a developer, I have to admit that this is my favorite part. I rolled up my sleeves and dove headfirst into my IDE. There were challenges, of course, but with each one, I learned, adapted, and grew a bit. After a month of development, Bloombeaver started to take shape.

The Beta Phase

With many iterations under my belt, and a hard decision about which features should be included in the beta, and which ones should be implemented at a later stage, it was time to get some feedback. I sent out a few cold emails, but most useful insights and requests came from friends. Overall, the feedback was positive, though a bit low in number.

The most valuable and genuine ideas came from technical friends. Don't underestimate the power of a fresh pair of eyes.

Improvements and Iterations

I decided to get back to work and implement the most sensible feature requests before looking for the next batch of users. I refined and improved the platform. The app not only took shape at this point, but it was closer to my initial vision as well.

And then it happened. After 8 months of spending nights and weekends, every issue labeled "1.0 release" was closed. The app is now ready to be launched.

The Launch

I'm excited, but also aware that reaching this big milestone doesn't mean that my work is finished. Quite the opposite, because it just opened up a whole new set of challenges that I'm not yet familiar with - but don't get me wrong, I'm optimistic, and I'm ready to tackle all of them.

Conclusion

This was intentionally not a product pitch, but more of me telling my story. I wanted to share my journey with you, and I hope you got at least a small burst of motivation to continue building or start telling your own story - I'd definitely be interested in both, so please let me know either way.
