When I first started receiving feature requests, I would get started on them immediately and release them in a matter of hours to make my users happy.
On a side note, it's funny that none of the users I did this for upgraded 😆
The problem was that I started building a product that had no real focus.
To make matters worse, users would make feature requests that conflicted with each other. What do you do in a situation like that?
To regain control, and to build a product that my ideal users would love, I started democratizing feedback collection
I'm using canny.io for this, but there are many feedback tools I know of, like upvoty.com and hellonext.co. I chose Canny because it's completely free to get started with 😅
I added the link to the feedback page to my site's menu, and feedback from genuinely interested users has slowly been rolling in.
Also, when people ask me for a new feature in support, I just ask them to create a feature request so that other users can vote on it.
Doing this has made knowing what to build next way easier, and now I'm building a product that my users actually need.
I know someone who runs a SAAS who has a different branch of the code base and dedicated database for every customer. 😭
It's a cool way to do 2 things at the same time! You allow feedback while prioritizing the updates to stick to your product roadmap 💪
What do you think is the minimum number of users needed to start using Canny.io for feature prioritisation?
When we started we had < 5 active users. As long as you get a steady flow of signups, things should be fine
I have started to use Canny for URLR thanks to you!
Because this sentence is so true 😂 :
What I've found is that if something is truly important it will keep coming up again and again so much that there's no way you'll ever miss it or forget it.
If you stand for something and you know where you want your product to go, then the decisions somehow become obvious.
Great points! I'm starting to think that building new features is the new busy work. Some ppl seem addicted lol
Senja, not subuh?
Completely I agree with it
Yup, I totally agree with this. Death by feature request is a real thing.
Feedback is very valuable. Do you think you get more feedback in this way than in a simple form?
Can't tell for sure if I get MORE feedback. I do know that I get better quality feedback now though
