Every founder has the same delusion:
“Once I add this feature, users will come.”
Narrator: They didn’t.
I spent 4 months adding features. AI this. Automation that. Better UX. Faster performance.
Users: Still at 30.
Then I spent 2 weeks on distribution. Built a system to catch buying signals in real-time.
Users: 230 in 3 weeks.
The brutal truth:
Your product is probably good enough already.
What’s not good enough? Your ability to find people who need it.
Here’s what most founders miss:
Right now, someone on Reddit is posting “Does anyone know a good tool for X?”
That’s not just a question. That’s a buying signal.
They’re researching. Comparing options. Making a decision within 24 hours.
If you reply within the first hour with value, you’re in.
If you reply 3 days later (or never see the post), they’ve already bought from someone else.
The problem:
You can’t monitor Reddit, X, and LinkedIn 24/7.
You’re building features. Fixing bugs. Talking to users. Sleeping.
Meanwhile, buying signals are happening around the clock.
What I built:
LeadSynth AI monitors social platforms for intent signals in real-time.
Someone posts a buying signal → AI detects it → Agents engage automatically with helpful replies → Warm conversations start.
All automated. Runs 24/7 while I focus on product.
Why this matters for indie hackers:
You’re solo or small team. Every hour matters.
10 hours/week manually prospecting = 10 hours not shipping.
But if you don’t prospect, pipeline dies.
The answer: Automate prospecting completely. Get the time back.
The framework:
1. Stop adding features trying to “attract” users
1. Start monitoring where your ICP discusses problems
1. Catch buying signals in real-time
1. Engage when they’re actively looking
1. Convert warm conversations into customers
The result:
I went from “why is nobody signing up?” to “who are all these people signing up at 3am?”
Same product. Different distribution strategy.
What changed:
Before: Manual prospecting, inconsistent signups, burnout
After: Automated monitoring, daily signups, time for building
Distribution was the bottleneck. Not the product.
For other indie hackers:
When was the last time you improved distribution vs improved features?
Most of us are over-indexed on product and under-indexed on finding customers.
The hardest part of building isn’t coding. It’s distribution.
Building at: leadsynthai.app
Question: What’s your distribution strategy? Still manual or have you automated parts of it?
Strong lesson: distribution is usually the bottleneck, not another feature.
One caution: “agents engaging automatically” can backfire fast on Reddit/LinkedIn if it reads like bots or unsolicited pitching. The winning version is usually human-in-the-loop: real-time detection + drafted replies + you approve/post quickly.
Exactly and thats what we do we allow our users to customize their prompts and our AI automation isnt bot like as we allow the agents to act on users behalf
This is exactly where I've landed too.
Spent months obsessing over features. Added batch export, AI
suggestions, better filters. Users? Maybe 5 new signups. Pain.
Then I focused on one thing: finding the "does anyone know a tool
for X" posts before everyone else does.
The timing piece is everything. First-hour replies convert way
higher than day-3 replies. By then they've already found something.
Been running a similar setup - Wappkit reddit tool to filter
Reddit for low-comment threads with buying intent keywords. Not
as automated as yours (still responding manually), but catching
threads early made a real difference. Went from 0 to about 4
paying customers in 2 months just from Reddit.
Curious about the AI engagement part - do you find automated
replies convert as well as manual?
Yes and tbh even better sometimes as they're context driven heavily and dont get tired hhh
Very true. I fell into the same trap of adding feature after feature. Distribution was always the part I kept postponing, even though that’s where everything was leaking.
Exactly Distribution is what generates you revenue not 100 useless features.
Automating with leadsynth now been a great journey
This looks really useful for founders who struggle with where to find early customers. I’ve tried a few lead tools that just give you lists and then leave you to figure out how to turn that into real conversations, so a real-time conversation signal feels like a meaningful differentiator.
Curious what kind of results people here are seeing across different niches. Does it work equally well for B2B versus communities where demand signals are more subtle? Would be interested to hear how it’s working for others.
Yeah its been working great for both B2B customers and B2C both ends of the spectrum are generating leads and automating their outbound successfully with leadsynth.
very interesting, i learned that too, i stop myself from building more features that think everyone needs.
Its tough to do but required.
