Stopped Using VSCode. Built My Own IDE that Does Exactly What I Need.
I have not opened VSCode in a long time. Built my own IDE instead and it changed how fast I work.
It is called VEX Studio. Built around my exact workflow so every tool I use every day is one click away.
What it does:
Wraps HTML into Next.js automatically
Converts to JSX with full SEO structure
Generates API routes
Updates marketplace tools directly
Wraps in Vite and Supabase
Live preview running on the right side
Terminal at the bottom
GitHub integration built in
No plugins to find. No extensions to configure. No settings to manage. Just the workflow I need built the way I need it.
The upfront cost of building it was real. The daily leverage since then has been worth it many times over.
Building your own tools instead of adapting to existing ones is one of the most underrated decisions a solo developer can make.
Anyone else gone down this path?
Hey Julian — sharp move building VEX Studio around your exact Next/JSX/Vite/Supabase flow instead of bending VSCode.
Quick check: are you distributing VEX Studio to other builders (Reddit/forums where people complain about VSCode bloat / wanting a opinionated Next IDE) — or is this still mostly your personal setup?
