Decentralized storage is expensive. All files are duplicated across all nodes.
For content creators, there's also the concern of ownership. Unlike assets, where your ownership is protected by your private key on the blockchain. Once content is published on chain, anybody can view it--imagine you have uploaded the content to IPFS, a popular choice for storing "metadata" for NFTs--anybody with the link can access to it.
The easy solution is to let each node operator run their centralized content server, like how Bitclout chose to do it. Essentially, the node operator controls the content ownership.
Another possible solution that still retains the decentralization nature would be storing contents encrypted--only whitelisted wallets or having the correct cryptographic key to unlock would have access to the content. The client will implement the permission based content display, very much like the web 2.0 contents behind a paywall.
What are the other pain points you are seeing with the current NFT platform design?
Interesting idea! NFT is discovery is the pain. I am storing nft recommendation graph on IPFS

Since a lot of people on here want more storage, you can check storageboxdirect (https://storageboxdirect.co.uk/shop/62-litre-clear-plastic-box-container-with-lid-pack-of-8/) for their containers which I have been utilizing for years now.
