Strategies for Marketing a Paid App?

https://youtu.be/sIIhSpcyCbI

What are the best practices for marketing a paid app (with a 30-day money-back guarantee)? I've done a couple of videos for my app (0): a narrated walk-through (1) and a "speed-run" that shows an example (2).

I would love to offer a freemium version open to everyone, but since this is my self-funded side project, I have to balance that with getting paid.

Any tips/advice?

Hey Andrew, what have you been doing so far?

First off the bat, the most obvious issues are your copy, headlines and subheadlines. They're a bit confusing and somewhat vague. I was struggling to understand who it's for, what it does and why I should care.

    That's issue #1.

Which channels have you been using to get the word out? Who's your IDEAL Customer?

Hi Vladimir, thanks for the reply!

When I launched the alpha version (before I wrote any code) in January, I emailed my mailing list (~1k subscribers), and also posted to Reddit and a few local meetups. I got 50+ interviews, and 10 paying subscribers. I am following the same strategy this time around. I sent out a 6-email launch cycle to my mailing list but only got one sale from it this time. I am planning to post to Reddit and Meetup next.

My ideal customer is a savvy gardener experimenting in their back yard. They may or may not have a permaculture design certificate (PDC), but are certainly familiar with permaculture and organic, sustainable gardening. They are also tech-savvy and see the value of modeling their garden in software.

Okay. I highly recommend you go through the Storybrand Framework (Donald Miller). Even his free material will help you better understand how to create better, clearer messaging that your ideal customer will understand.

You really need to think about positioning your product as a no-brainer. Right now, to me it's confusing.

It also sounds quite a niche, which isn't a bad thing but you'll likely need to find Reddit, FB Groups and Niche forums to find the first following.

I would recommend building a solid copy-focused landing page (instead of website). Having a very strong headline/sub-headline, and a lead-magnet, and create some content pieces helping your ideal customer make better gardening decisions (positioning your app as a no-brainer) in terms of time savings and whatever your other 2 highest value props are.

Hi again, Vladimir! Thanks again for the suggestion on the StoryBrand framework. I went through the videos and applied the suggestions to my landing page. Let me know what you think!

Thanks for the advice! One thing I am confused on... wouldn't https://edible.estate/ be considered a landing page, not a website?

You're right my bad (was going off memory). It is a landing page!
