build community. that's what i did. it worked. i launched an instagram competitor and kickstart'ed it: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/tentblogger/pressgram-an-image-sharing-app-built-for-an-indepe

quite literally a competitor: "instagram for independent creators" (you own the rights).

i could talk for days on this.

      Wow!

That's what I want to do, but not through the KickStarter, but some messenger.

BTW, what's going on with your app now?

i killed it. or, it killed me. i raised a lot more and it didn't work. i'm still paying off the debt of that failed startup.

Props for getting it off the ground. I tried to build a Reddit clone and failed thinking it would be a case of if you build it they will come lol! Any chance you could share some stories of it?

too many to share, to be honest... but, i've been meaning to share some broader thoughts on crowdfunding in general... would that be useful?

    Interesting gamified idea! @Fruzenshtein

Like many other social media, you need to find the North star metric that matters your growth. Find what makes people sticky on your platform, incentivize and allow users to spread the word for you without sufficient marketing effort. So, gather numbers.

I post on Instagram 3 times a week for my side project because I see the value of bringing new and organic traffic at the same time. Maybe you want to carry out a sweet spot for your application.

How do you engage the first users when you have 0? For example on Instagram you follow others. What if no users exist and nobody wants to be the first one

The main idea is to post photo and compete with other photos from the same category
