Struggle Finding Users

Hi All!

I'm currently working on a platform to connect users with experts providing professional advice in a variety of different areas - from entrepreneurial guidance to everyday help.

We started Beta testing a month ago and we have had great success getting Experts on board. We have, however, struggled with onboarding customers on the User side. We have tried tapping Quora, Reddit and Facebook as unpaid acquisition channels and haven't had much success. People on the user side seem to be reluctant to join...

Here is the user landing page so that you get a better idea of what we are trying to do: wyzr.me

We would appreciate specific feedback or thoughts as to why this might be the case and how to possibly change our approach.

Thank you!

My advice: niche down. Your landing page is currently very vague. Do you have experts in botany? music? software? I have no idea. It is hard enough to build a marketplace in a specific niche, let alone build one so broad. Things will become 100x easier to reason about when you niche down.

Thank you for the feedback! That does make sense. We decided target a broad audience for our MVP to determine what market to dive into and put more work into for the (potential) launch. But perhaps this tactic is not working as planned.

"Unicorns" and "silver-spoon" companies have enough marketing/ad run way to burn. That can usually outlast other companies in time or impact.

I would double down on what works (if or when you find it). Quora, Reddit and Facebook all have successful "market place" models.

So until you get to that point maybe you could

    • Ride their coat tails like you've already been doing and let time grow your exposure
    • (As @dhruv mentioned) Niche down. That's the fastest way to generate your revenue in the beginning and you can use that to fund additional channels (if you choose to).
    • Your message must be clear to your market. You have 2 sides - buyers and sellers. Most people just have buyers.
    • As far as the sellers' side, go where they are. To think of it (just my 2 cents) I wouldn't mind using your service via mobile app, Alexa or other 'Alexa'-type video enabled devices. Integrate EVERYWHERE your question askers like to ask questions.

I just started marketing myself and would rather learn COBOL or Erlang (No disrespect to the gods)

      Thanks @frederickjohnson! We'll give that a try.

I agree with dhruvg. You need to clearly show the kind of advice available.

I'd like to talk to an expert guitarist that can clearly explain music theory.
I'm thinking of going to eastern Europe when travel reopens, I'd like advice on the best place for a family to stay.
I'm having trouble with authenticating emails sent through Gmail.

Do you have experts on those topics? How would I know from your landing page?

    I hope that helps.
    John

It does, thank you! These are going to be questions that we will have answered by our launch.
