Struggling to get feedback from app users

https://slack-files.com/TD4TAQQ84-FLJ562WEA-12c636456e

Hi,
I have a productivity app on the Playstore, it's getting reasonable downloads 25+ a day, it is ranked #1 or 2 for our main keywords; Customer base, Google contacts CRM,etc.
https://slack-files.com/TD4TAQQ84-FLJ562WEA-12c636456e

But not getting much feedback from users. Most of the users come directly from searching the playstore. We dont collect users emails in the app, although have a collected a few via website, but it's only a minority of users who go to our website or register there.

Problems are about 85% of users uninstall the app. Not many are buying the IAP.

Should I use some type of app logging to track what's going on? (Currently just tracking new tasks, and completed ones)
Or how do I can get feedback from active users?

In the app, are you tracking user behavior? I'd recommend tracking the key flows and seeing where people are dropping off. What's the main action you want to do and where are the drop-offs in that flow? For example, I track steps to finishing a day in my journal app - like signing up, uploading the first post, and each consecutive one. You can get more granular if that data isn't telling you enough. Segment or Mixpanel are perfect for this!

For the website, have you considered adding a chat client to the website like Drift or Intercom? They might seem annoying as a user (I never actually use them myself) but I've heard that a surprising amount of people will actually start conversations. I think it's worth trying out at the very least!

Hey matt, i was checking through some of the options mentioned here for analytics into my java android app. I was looking through the documentation for installing Segment, and I was wondering which one of these tools would be easiest to integrate? Segment or Mixpanel?
      thanks

I really don't think you could go wrong with either one - both are easy to use and very popular. Segment allows you to send data through to other services so it might be a little more flexible. You can set up Segment to send data to Mixpanel, for example.

I've been using Mixpanel for years so I'm a little biased!

Awesome, I will try out those key-flow tracking tips, thanks for the suggestion.
The main action is to get people to create notes or tasks for their customers and then finish tasks.

I recently installed Drift on my website for customer conversations, haven't had much response through it yet.

I hear you. I tried email survey. But I got very few responses. Like what others mentioned Intercom works better. I get some support email through that. The problem is yours is mobile apps so I'm not sure how Intercom works. I've got some quality feedback from users I've received from Beta listing.

What I'm trying now for my early stage startup (probably earlier than yours) is to go the other way around. Not relying on anonymous users, but getting the route of talking to people to download/tryout the apps via different channels. Then, you can always come back and ask them personally what they thought about it.

Also, I heard you can try gift card testing too (form the book Lean Startup). You can say $20 on Craiglist in your town, ask them to come to the office, and check out your users. That might be an actually better way to try to get feedback from existing ones.

    Best of luck.

Will give it a shot. I think the hardest thing is cold calling when people dont' know you they always assume its some sales thing going on. I think the money upfront offer has this effect on letting peoples guard down.

Hi Pete, This was a big problem for us too in the early days and we are still trying to get better at it now. I have written two blog posts on this that you should checkout.

    This was the first one..

    This was the second one...

I hope that helps, do let me know if you have any questions.

That was amazing Sabba, what an incredible journey, really appreciate you sharing!

It's interesting how you ended up finding user engagement. I will try a $5 offer to get feedback from people and see how that goes from there. And also brainstorm some more hangout locations. Initially I thought reddit productivity would be good but that was dismal. I need to find small business operators who are on the go, like mobile hairdressers, travelling salesmen, tradesman, who want a quick and simple solution for their customer info.

Hey Pete. try this? https://www.userhabit.io/ It lets you observe user behavior and accelerate your app growth with only one line of code.

Giving it a try. Sounds good. Are you affiliated to the company? (Can I tell you if I have a problem? )

Once I got to the install screen, its got most of the instructions in an asian language. Bit stuck at this point.

Hmm. No I'm not affiliated with the company. It's a Korean startup, they might have not yet fully globalized the service yet. I'm not sure Hotjar.com does mobile analytics, but you can try them also?
