Subscription model in design: the good, the bad, the ugly

Hello, everyone! Me and my friend just launched a design subscription service at https://drut.design/design-subscription and would love to hear what founders think of this engagement model!

Long story short, we recently shifted towards a productized approach for offering design services and moved away from traditional fixed-scope projects. We believe this could be beneficial for SaaS and digital products as well as enterprises seeking a steady flow of deliverables without all the corporate BS and counter-productive work.

Here's how we see the 4 core benefits of this model:

  1. You can start almost immediately and self-manage the process in Trello.
  2. You can work on anything design-wise (or almost anything), and iterate for as much as you want.
  3. You get a faster (2-3 days usually) turnaround on deliverables.
  4. You can pause whenever you like, and get back on track whenever ready.
  5. Experienced team of digital design pros.

We've removed non-design elements such as contracts, commitments, and lengthy calls. This lets us save valuable time and invest it solely into the design. The tools used in the process are:

  • Trello for client task management and general updates
  • Figma for sharing design results and feedback exchange

Ultimately, I would love to hear your thoughts on this, and if any of you find this design engagement scheme beneficial and why. Also curious in hearing ideas from digital founders about how they currently approach their design projects.

Again, whether it's a love or hate feedback – don't hesitate to share it! ✨
