How Product Hunt changed the game for my Chrome extension (and what I learned)
Just wanted to share a quick story from my recent Product Hunt launch.
Before this, I'd tried pretty much everything: posting on Reddit, niche forums, YouTube shorts, social media, alternative extension stores - you name it. Sure, I got some decent views on YouTube, but conversions into actual installs were minimal. Honestly, it was pretty frustrating.
Then came Product Hunt - and I decided to go all in, but strategically:
📸 Real, Practical Screenshots
Instead of vague marketing graphics, I used clear, practical images showing exactly how my extension works in real scenarios.
📝 Personalized, Honest Description
Instead of generic AI-generated blurbs, I told a short, genuine story about why and how I built the product.
🚫 No Distracting Banners
I removed the typical top banner that most launch pages have. Users immediately saw the key screenshots and description - no scrolling or distractions.
Additionally, I actively explored similar products launched on Product Hunt and left genuine, thoughtful comments. Surprisingly, that not only increased engagement with other makers but also boosted visibility for my own product.
Results? I was amazed:
🥳 Over 330 upvotes
🏅 Reached the Top-5 products of the day
📈 Gained 200 new users in just one day
This was huge for me since my previous extensions averaged only about 2–10 daily installs.
A curious side note: after receiving around 5-10 DMs offering me suspicious "upvote boosts," I now have a better idea of how some products magically hit the top spots 🤔.
What about you, how was your Product Hunt launches? What's your secret sauce or biggest lesson learned?

Very interesting.. Congrats!
Quick question, how 'ready' was your product when you launched in Product Hunt? Had you already gone through testing rounds with real users?
heck out my launch today – Draw on Screen. It’s a much simpler tool, and the result isn’t perfect either :)
I'm not sure the product was completely ready – in fact, a few bugs showed up later and I still haven’t fixed them. But I believe if the product already delivers value, you should launch it.
For testing, I sent a detailed product description to GPT and asked it to prepare a test cases. Then I followed them – worked surprisingly well!
ooh, good idea!
Congrats! Product Hunt wasn't that successful for me, but I managed to hit my first 500 visitors on my site the first day. Only 4 upvotes on PH tho.
how did you manage that? any other platform helped?
any other website recommend to submit tool?
I ve also noticed that LinkedIn is a pretty good place to share product updates
