Sunday Edition: Weekly Retrospective!

#daily-stand-up

The weekly retro gives hackers the space to:

  • Reflect on our triumphs for the week.
  • Reflect on where we fell short for the week.
  • Share concerns about being on track for your monthly epic and ask for feedback.

To join in:

01 Share your epic (a big chunk of work with a meaty objective) you'd like to complete by the end of March.

02 Share your triumphs for the week.

03 Share your failures for the week.

04 Share your course corrects/game plan moving forward.

05 Give feedback to at least one fellow hacker and give them an IH Point for their check in.

Optional:

06 Share your Work In Progress to underscore your accomplishments.

(Smiling) The regular scheduled stand up will resume tomorrow.

    Our Idea:

A high school Esports league that schools sign up for and then the students compete against other schools and students in various video games. I am a high school student creating this idea in a small group.

    By end of 2019:

    • Partner with the NFHS, and have 25 Schools signed up with us

    By end of March:

    • Have 3 Sponsorships with companies to help us run our events. (Reaching out to Sponsors currently)

    • Have a full business plan written, and an email to send to Sponsors, and schools

    • Talk to 25 Schools about Esports and the future of Esports in their schools

    • Talk to investors about our best course of action and set a better strategic plan to succede

    • Publish our website

    Triumphs:

    • Found a web developer and working with him on website

    • Contacted Web Developers

    • Got 50 Sign ups for our event, and planned event more

    • Wrote a decent email, and strategic plan

    • Posted on lots of Reddit pages, and discord and other social medias

    • Signed up free trial at Crunchbase and got lots of great Info

    Fails:

    • Feel like my emails will just get declined by investors because we aren't far enough yet but maybe I will be wrong

    • Might have to change brand name because Gamepeach is sort of unprofessional

    • Emails I wrote didn't have perfect grammar/writing

    • Very hard to find the right people to email about my idea, even though I know lots of people will be interested

    • Sponsorships are hard to find, and we will have trouble getting tournament perfectly sponsored

    • Felt like I wasted lots of time, and was unsure about what to do

    • Did not have a clear plan

    Game plan:

Work with web developer, talk to as many professionals as possible to continue to learn. Read more books while website is being developed. Check my phone less and keep personally emailing people to get more insight into world. Plan the event better, and market it to more high schools. Re email high schools to get them involved.

What an awesome idea! Hope to read more in the daily stand ups!

    EPIC

    By end of 2019:

    5K MR

    By end of March:

    • 馃檶馃従Launched 12 March 2019. (Will share WIP during end of month retro)

    • Publish 18 articles. (18/18 determined, 8/18 written, 4/18 published)

    • Conduct 3 landing page experiments with a minimum CTR of 2.69%.

    • Increase organic growth from 0 to 11 persons (4 of 11).

    • Persuade an additional 15 influencers to contribute posts. (9/15)

    TRIUMPHS

    • I launched.

    • I published my first "pillar post".

    • I published my first influencer posts.

    • I published my first social posts.

    • I automated most of social media.

    • I SEO-tized the shit out of my website.

    • Found a new illustrator who is 馃敟馃敟馃敟 and not a lot of 馃挵馃挵馃挵.

    • I feel good about my game plan for gaining authority.

    FAILS

    • Wow. Marketing done right is truly a full time gig. I completely underestimated what's required to execute a thoughtful and purposeful marketing campaign. On the bright side, I'm learning a ton.

    • Did not even come close to making my writing goal for the week. The pillar post was a beast.

    • Spending money carelessly searching for illustrators and retouchers.

    COURSE CORRECTS/GAME PLAN

Now that I've templates for all but one post, we'll see if the writing comes faster this week. I'll also determine a weekly budget for photos and illustrations.

    This week, I'm excited to:

    ( 1 ) Experiment and determine whether this concept has wings;

    ( 2 ) Promote my pillar post.

( 3 ) See if I can hit the writing goal for next week. I've some ground to cover!
