Sunday Retro: What did you accomplish this past week?

#weekly-retrospective, #daily-stand-up

The weekly retro gives hackers the space to:

  • Reflect on our triumphs for the week.
  • Reflect on where we fell short for the week.
  • Share concerns about being on track for your monthly epic and ask for feedback.

To join in:

01 Share your epic (a big chunk of work with a meaty objective) you'd like to complete by the end of April.

02 Share your triumphs for the week.

03 Share your failures for the week.

04 Share your concerns moving forward.

05 Give feedback to at least one fellow hacker and give them an IH Point for their check in.

Optional:

06 Share your Work In Progress to underscore your accomplishments.

(Smiling) The regular scheduled stand up will resume tomorrow.

Welcome @Issa! Do you really mean $2.5M in monthly revenue?

      1. 2

        @Davey thanks! I mean $2500 in MRR.

  2. 3

    EPIC

    By end of 2019:

    5K MR - 1398.34/5000

    By end of May:

    • [Hair Mogul] Create 6 of 13 modules for an online course.
    • [Jeanius] Hire second VA.
    • [Jeanius] Publish 16 posts.

    SUCCESS

    • [Hair Mogul] Finished curriculum outline.
    • [Jeanius] Ran the first two experiments Friday and Saturday.

    FAIL

    • Spent too long picking my damn intro/outro music.
    • Haven't put any points on the board yet. But confident I'll score this week.
    • The timeline for the course start date may have been a tad bit aggressive. (Grinning) I've a lot of work to do to spin up a course in a week.

    NEXT WEEK
Look forward to recording my first modules this week.

    FEEDBACK
Will swing back through this evening...

Congrats on the progress. I too will be watching your course project. Seems many are going that route and I'm considering it for the future.

      1. 1

Thank you! Any resources you found that were helpful?

    2. 2

I had a former coworker who started Qcut Jeans, it didn't last but she seemed to learn a lot in the process.

Really excited by your projects. Especially Hair Mogul, because I wanted to do a training course project at some point as well. Glad you are bringing in revenue!

      1. 1

Thanks for the good vibes! What sort of training course are you contemplating?

        1. 1

My parents and in laws struggle with a lot of computer/technology basics. So something that’s easy for them to pick up new skills. I was thinking a video series across multiple tracts. I’m shelving it for now until I can work on easier projects.

    • [Magnus Rush] 12k MAU for the App: (60/12k)
    • [Announcr] Build prototype and try to sell it to a customer

    May Goals

    • [Magnus Rush] Automate podcast outbound emails based on user activity: 0% Complete
    • [Magnus Rush] Invite 30 podcasts to the platform: 0% Complete
    • [Announcr] Validate business interest with 10 survey responses/interviews: 2/10
    • [Announcr] Sign one customer for a paid pilot: 0% Complete
    • [Announcr] Prototype Location App for live demos: 10% Complete
    • [Announcr] Prototype Location Client App for live demos: 43% Complete

    TRIUMPHS

    • [Announcr] I started the week by beginning to explore things. I am just delighted at what I'm seeing so far. I found some distant competitors so I can rephrase my value proposition in terms of things business owners already buy/understand. More on that this week.
    • [Announcr] Doing as much marketing as I am developing so far!
    • [Magnus Rush] Found a recurring random bug and a solution which is going to be useful in both MR and Announcr.
    • [Magnus Rush] Got great validation on my pricing strategy, and great support from the podcaster community, including someone who is very influential in the community

    Failures
I noticed I would put things in my standups which I was going to work on, and then I worked on other things. Need to understand what that's all about, and see if it's a sign of me getting off course/distracted

    Concerns
I am excited about Announcr. Every day that goes by I am tickled pink when a little step ahead is taken. Showing it to my kids this weekend got some pretty wild reactions. It's really unique, and truly thrilling to experience. The concern is that, so far, I'm having trouble conveying it in messaging, and I get some pushback on the concept. I don't mind pushback, it's important to me and causes me to steer. Otherwise I'd keep going straight, into the void of non-interest and worse, non-reaction. Perhaps some videos when it's further along will do the trick, but not everyone is going to want to watch a video. I will continue to refine the message.

    WIPs

  4. 1

With so much going on, I need this accountability. Hopefully, I'll be back for more.

    Monthly Epic

    • Launch new version of the service that has too many new features to be sane, but we're doing it anyway.

    Weekly Triumph

    • Figure out bunch of API, HTTPS issues and configuration issues with services we use to deliver our service - kinda stuff that makes you post on Stackoverflow then tear your hair out.

    Weekly Failure

    • Contractor didn't figure it out, so I had to spend my time to figure it out

    Concerns

    • Launching too much stuff at once ensuring something will go wrong
    • Testing enough to minimize edge cases causing problems
    • Migrating some users who need to re-authenticate without losing too many

    WIPs

    • New resource center with anchor content that will hopefully rank well and bring new prospects. Should be the most comprehensive and easy to read in my niche. Taking forever to research and write.

Since I lose track of stuff... https://www.indiehackers.com/post/624c18cdff?commentId=-LdoN7MzPH-NeS19lyua

I have an app that's centered around locations. That's all I'll cover here until it becomes something more.

    My Epic for May

    • Codify the C/R/U/D for my project
    • Have a fully functioning page for a single "location"

Share your triumphs for the week.

    • I was looking to hire a VA and interviewed a few people who did a sample task based on the project I'm working on. Some of the VAs thought it was a good idea.
    • I switched to making a static page as my first thing I need to launch, rather than building a CRUD first.

    Failures for the week.

Not failures per se, but competing ideas for my time.

    • I got distracted by another idea and then came back to this one.
    • I mentioned a totally different idea to work on maybe on the side of this, but it's a lot harder so I'll wait.

    Share your concerns moving forward.

    • My biggest concern is that I'm not working on a project that is worth my time.
    • I am afraid I will launch and it's SEO driven and won't get people visiting my site.
    • Lots of work up ahead.
    1. 1

Love the idea of making a page first!
