Suno Just Dropped a $400M, Grant Program for Real Artists.

Phew!

I was just going through the latest news updates on Ai music in zinstrel and I genuinely had to reread everything twice because there's a lot happening right now and some of it is actually kind of wildddd..

like where do I even start? Loololl!!

So first. the money.

Suno just raised over $400 million. valuation is sitting at approximately $5.4 billion right now. that's not a startup anymore.

that's not "scrappy AI music experiment" territory.

that is a serious serious company with serious serious money behind it and whatever they're building next is not small.

Here's whatsuppp...

they launched something called Spark.

Spark is basically an artist incubator slash grant program for independent artists. not an AI feature. not a new model. an actual program designed to help real human musicians fund and develop their music projects.

let that sit for a second.

the same company that has ongoing copyright lawsuits from independent artists claiming their recordings were used without permission to train the AI... just launched a program to give independent artists money and support.

I don't know if that's genuine or if it's the best PR move in music tech history but either way it's a thing that is happening right now.

so like. a lot happened. (CoolSTUFF!!!) 😂

but I keep coming back to Spark because it's the most interesting and the most confusing at the same time. the lawsuits are still going. new legal firms have joined representing independent artists over the training data thing and none of that is resolved yet. so Suno is simultaneously being sued by the artists they're now trying to fund and support.

that's a very specific kind of complicated.

is Spark genuinely trying to build a bridge with the artist community or is it damage control dressed up as an incubator. genuinely cannot tell yet. maybe both. probably both.

but the stem upgrade and the $400M are real regardless of how you feel about the rest of it. and if you're using Suno heavily for production right now those two things are the actual story.

the power users already know. everyone else is still arguing about whether AI music is real.

(no doubt it's crazy RN!)

what do you think about Spark? is Suno actually trying to acknowledge real artists or is this just corporate goodwill theater?
