Support Whereby over Zoom, and help them translate

I was sick of Zoom even before all these privacy issues arose. In my consulting business, 2015-2018, I used appear.in for video chats with my clients and the experience was really good for all. Branded link, no software download, no strict times, and lockable rooms. It was far better than Hangouts or Skype at the time, and now I'm using it instead of Zoom too - in their new brand, Whereby. https://whereby.com/ (not an affiliate link)

WAAYYY better privacy controls and details, encrypted video / audio / chat, GDPR compliant, call recording, and an API for website embeds. Google Docs, Trello, and YouTube integrations, and Slack pending. Also a reasonable price, if you even need the Pro or Business plan features. Anyway, enough shilling for now.

One thing I noticed in their docs is their plan to add other languages, but they just don't have the team to support that yet. Maybe, if the community wants other languages they can support them with some translation services bartered for a Whereby subscription. Just a thought, as I imagine some people have free time right now.

I love Whereby, have it on my todo list to sign up to a Pro account :)

Whereby has lots of qualities (you've already mentioned) but:

    • it's expensive (more than Zoom)
    • no transcription
    • no private chat feature
    • video quality is not optimal (suspecting their p2p technology is not adapted for calls with more than x participants)

Finally, their sales support person (the sales director) is unprofessional.

But after listing these flaws, Whereby is the solution we've decided to use.

Whereby is great but it's expensive vs Zoom and they don't seen to have live transcript/captions or even transcription at all. We would need a text transcription and/or live captioning to switch.
