Surfers of Indie Hackers: Survey

Hey everyone. I'm starting to think about building a new app for surfers. Focused around tracking surf sessions easily and accurately. Things are still very early days.

So my ask here, I am looking for a few Indie Hackers/Surfers to 1) Fill out the survey 2) If interested more let me show them some designs and do some more exploratory usability studies.

Also any tips on where to recruit participants would be greatly appreciated?Originally I thought I could post on various surfing reddits but it's against the rules.

Thank you in advance for time.

Your idea sounds similar to something that I am currently building - thewavepatrol.com.

Wave Patrol will log your session comments along with the date and time, and will pull the current breaking wave height, swell details such as period and direction, wind details (speed, direction), tide data and temperatures. It will also have an alert system which will most likely initially be via Signal or Telegram for when a spot you configured meets your criteria.

Wave Patrol will initially be just a website, but my next move would be an app if there are enough users taking up these services.

I am hoping to release Wave Patrol mid April.

In terms of recruiting participants, this is really difficult to get any useful feedback because as soon as you mention a charge to some surfers, you get some resistance. I have found that visiting local breaks and just trying to start up a conversation about the conditions is best. If they are happy to talk then I start talking about my ideas. Also, surprisingly, I made a holding page, which is still up, and I have had 53 email addresses signing up to be told when everything is ready, and that is with no marketing or SEO at all.

    Just completed your survey too!

Hey @clintonhalpin - very interesting project.

This could be def something very interesting to explore with Surf Coaches and more pros? No?

Also, it should be super interesting to find a way to connect to surf watches and check what is the information that you can have from that wearable. I reckon there are Garmin have one... the ambition could be to be the Strava of surf? That is actually pretty cool :)

More than happy to chat more on this if you need help : )

Hey Clinton, I just took the survey. Feel free to hit me up with any additional questions. I'm also building a web app for surfers - yewreview.com. The general idea is to be a daily surfing content aggregator with an excellent interface. I've wrapped up a bare bones beta version of the site and I need to stop building and start getting feedback! I may hit you up in the near future 🤙

Ah nice... @davenovelli! How do you get all that info? really cool!
How could you have the user not getting out of your web app?

The reason why I am asking about the content is because it would be really nice to get a similar type of data on my project - https://www.roamthelineup.com/ .

      Anyhow, cool project.
