Task management apps — anyone else still not found one that works for them?
When it comes to task management apps, I've been around the block a few times. I've tried Trello, notion, basecamp, asana, meistertask, clubhouse, todoist, google keep, things 3 and more recently, mem.
Some of them have worked fairly well. Others; not so much. The common theme has been that none of them has "fit like a glove". They've all given me friction of one kind or another.
Task management and todo apps are tools that millions of people rely on. This may be unfair but I want a task management app that really feels like an extension of me. Especially as a solo builder with ADHD. The tiniest bit of friction throws me off. Be that in the lack of speed, the lack of versatility or the lack of focus present in so many of today's offerings.
I ask this because I've been obsessed with building a task management app to solve this problem but with the market being so competitive, I'm unsure whether to go all-in on this.
I'm asking this community openly and honestly, has anyone else struggled to find a task management app, todo app or project management app that hasn't slowed them down in one way or another? I've been told recently that I need to validate my ideas so I'm asking for your help.

What you describe is the reason why there are so many task management apps...

Loved Sunsama, but very expensive. Using Mem right now + Asana for work that works but not very convinced 😅
My latest is notion, but kinda laggy, but at least all in one

it's has forced me off to asana or trello for more team collab stuff. Still trying to find the best tool to work with. Weekly planning etc... still on notion...with link to asana for my todos/backlogs.
On iOS, I use "task manager. daily to do list" ... used to be called TAPPSK. lol.

very seriously thinking of building an app similar to it but with reduced pricing 😅
Hell yes, even after trying so many apps I still feel like none of them fit my requirements exactly,
another issue for me is that I have used Todoist for a long time and at this point so into their karma system that I don't want to leave it all together,
I was wondering if people would be interested in an app that uses todoist as the backend, so all tasks get added to todoist and can be managed from its apps even on mobile.
SaaS companies are curious about new tools, however, they are equally interested in finding ways to cut costs.
So when there are too many applications that are unused or have overlapping functionalities, it definitely matters to have a close look.

It might be that more modern tools like Height, Kitemaker, or Linear will give you less friction :)
Thanks for the tips. I haven't heard of these. I'll give them a whirl. I love what @threehourcoffe is doing in the todo space (shout out to you Marie!). I just need something that can span my daily tasks aswell as big projects and documentation. A super smooth, distraction-free notion lite is what I feel would be the perfect mix.
The freedom without the friction
What matters more is how you use the tool rather than what tool to use
For example, I use things 3 and it's enough. One workaround I use is that I create tags with the week's number and that's how I assign tasks to time periods.
And I would try to stay away from notion because it's just complicates everything(just my opinion, it might work for you)
Also, don't worthlessly stress over what to use, just see how you can empty your head as effectively as possible with the least amount of effort. Be agile and practical
Thanks for the insight. This is really interesting. I use notion at work (I run a small team) and I use it for the documents I write for my own projects. That being said its laggy, it has too many features and I find it overall very clumsy. It definitely pulls me out of flow most days.
