Tech companies are just adult daycare at this point

I'm surprised by it too. Many folks in the tech industry are understandably focused on technology, which, let's face it, is somewhat disconnected from the real world. In order to get good at building and producing technology, one has to instinctually remove oneself from topical conversations like daily news/politics. So, it's not surprising that tech workers aren't well versed or involved in political issues when their work necessitates their removal from these discussions.

It's also about keeping people at work as long as possible. The more companies can make work seem fun, and blur the boundaries between work/home/play/the rest of your life, the better it is for the company (sadly).

That said, I do legitimately prefer working at companies that want me to also have fun with my colleagues and not just be in constant meetings or sat at my desk.
