tech people: did you start something non-technical successfully? If not, do you ever feel like you want to?
Lately I've been feeling like I don't want any more tech projects to add to my pile. I work as a software engineer and I'm finishing up a PhD in machine learning. It's a lot of tech on my plate already.
But I think even before I had the job, and only had the PhD and no deadlines on the horizon I still felt like it would be awesome to have a side gig that's not tech.
I find it much harder to come up with ideas and much more challenging to visualise how low to no tech projects can work (content-based things, shops, affiliates, etc). I admire people who aren't technical and start business that simply don't need much tech. The tech is not their core, but a means to get what they do done.
Oh, I'm not talking side hobbies that will never turn into anything profitable. Also I don't mean no tech as no tech allowed, but tech isn't the core, where daily life doesn't have anything to do with coding.
Does anyone else ever feel like this? What's your non-tech thing you'd like to do? Are there any technical people here who started something very non-tech successfully?
I think I get you, I considered that several times among other things.
Specifically feeling like doing things too big, too complicated...
There are people who choose not to do tech even if that was their background and I salute anyone that has had success unrelated to that.
I think due this should not be even a thing on your mind with finding a good business.
The question is, what problem can I see that multiple people have that is of value to be solved, that could be monitized, that I can solve efficiently for them? (I here refers to the organising function not the execution)
