Technical debt is great - if it's someone else's problem. For instance, WordPress. The community maintains it. You get the benefits. Virtually every startups needs to accumulate some "technical debt" for it's unique features/differentiation. Which isn't a bad thing! In fact, even accumulating a pile of "technical debt" could be good business decision - like if a very lucrative project has to be rushed into production at all costs. Solutions need not always be extremely elegant.

This is a good argument. I've always experienced the opposite though as I've worked in big teams and that makes it very messy. Your scenario would really only work in small and organised teams or even in solo founder cases.
