So far, so good. Users are currently stable at ~100 MAU. 4 users subscribed to the premium subscription and two of them canceled later on (Too bad). This month I'm working on expanding the content users can use to help them create better messages to reach out.

    2019 Goals for Contact Journal

    • 100 paying customers (/month). Currently 2.
    • 1000 happy customers (MAU). Currently 97.

    By end of May

    • Expanding content. Working on more content that helps users reach out.

    Yesterday and today

    • Creating content

If you can spare a few minutes, give it a try and share your feedback. Much appreciated!

@everyone, Good luck with your goals for May!

Nice simple landing page. Useful idea that could really get some steam.
I'd definitely be interested but I'm on another platform
Do you have Android version scheduled?

      1. 1

        Thanks~
The landing page is still WIP. The AppStore pages look much better!
At the moment there is no Android version scheduled, but I might give Flutter a chance in the future.

    2. 1

Congrats on those premium users. Did you consider reaching out to those who churned and ask why?

      1. 1

I'm not collecting any user data so I can't reach out and ask why.

    Epic:

Launch Naminator, Bianna, Dating site by end of 2019. Have one of them gain traction.

    Today:

    • I think I've worked out the final algorithm that would / should / fingers crossed, produce consistently good results. At least preliminary testing / hunch indicates so.

    Tomorrow:

    • Try to implement the algorithm I've planned out and test the results..

Cheers! You seem to have taken a different approach from other name generators. Good luck!

    2. 2

Good on you for working on that algo before jamming on the keyboard. It's an under-utilized but important skill that I don't see enough of in my current workspace.

    • [Hair Mogul - Bonus] No idea what came over me last night. But scratched the itch to get on the (Google) map for online courses. I wrote and published a pillar post. Still work to do to optimize for search engines, but a damn good start.
    • [Jeanius] Turn over tickets assigned to me re Influencer posts.

    TONIGHT

    • [Hair Mogul] Finish financial model for Module 2.
    • [Hair Mogul] Add course material to Teachable.
    • [Hair Mogul - Bonus] Create resources page.
    • [Jeanius] Turn over tickets assigned to me re Influencer posts.

KUDOS: I gotta give one more shout out to @anuragg! With his gracious spoon-feeding, I migrated from Heroku to Render within two hours and a savings of $88! This was a task that I was dreading and Render made it painless!

WIP: Jeanius, Hair Mogul, Happy Endings

Really happy to have Happy Endings on Render, and congrats on all the progress! You're a machine!

      1. 2

Really happy have a found a home for Happy Endings!

    2. 2

Glad to see the migration went well.

And it's good know that Render makes it easy. Thanks for sharing that feedback.

      1. 1

Where the hell have you been?

        1. 1

lol! Working and getting all the ducks in a row for the party tonight! Can't have party people going hungry at a party.

Or for that matter, can't have low income moms and kids going hungry in general (my day job is dev, deploy, and maintenance for software used to give benefits in a few hundred WIC clinics in several states).

    3. 2

Fantastic! I think I am going to deliberately learn about SEO this month finally. Maybe I can find a good podcast to listen to on the journey today about it!

    Project: https://257fixes.com

#01 - Generate US$500 a week in sales, without relying on referrals.

#02 - Built the new offering landing page at https://257fixes.com/website-check

#03 - Do more research on sales & marketing strategy

    1. 2

Curious, how are your health checks are performed and delivered?

Your industry standard tools might be worth listing also.
Looks like your target is people who don't know how, or don't want to trouble themselves, to use them. That might add some oomph behind your service.

      1. 2

Sucuri, Pingdom, among others are industry standard tools I use. For now, tests are done manually / semi-automatic. The upside of my service is that I go beyond checking metrics. Deliverables are basically a PDF document with that particular website's weak points, explained in layman terms. Basically, I compare whatever I get to previous results, known issues and overlooked details on the previous tasks. 257 was made based on actual needs of actual clients I had over the last two decades. So far, pretty much all of customers 257 had were my previous clients.

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I need to convey a message better and communicate the offer better. Up to a point of even changing the website entirely.

All of my previous sales experience selling my consulting services was outbound or through networking. In a way I imagined 257 to be, it doesn't work. It's inbound, by design and on a purpose. It's just that I'm somehow struggling to figure out what to do to make it happen.

        Your feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Cool concept, I can think of a few past employers who should consider using this. Very interested to see where it goes.

Not trying to disparage in any way, but I wonder if the domain name interferes with credibility? I once led the dev team at a manufacturer called, no joke, Mechanical Devices Company, which spent way more time courting customers because the response is always "wait is that a real thing?". I still have trouble explaining that it was in fact real, when I interview for positions on some contracts.

Have you considered playing with domain names in A/B style scenarios to see if something a little less 'on-the-nose' might perform better?

      1. 1

Thanks for the feedback, @jpusateri! I haven't tested the brand, but also haven't heard any feedback about credibility concerns. I'll work on some tests / surveys to see if I can get a better sense of market perception. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just to ensure I understand your concern, is it that the name 1Brand is to explicitly descriptive? Or is it the .co TLD? Anything else you can share about your perception would be very helpful.

        1. 1

It might be nothing in the long term. 1800accountants seems to have dealt with it (even though that domain name gives me the heeby-jeebies).

My first thoughts were "oh this could be really useful!" followed by "hmmm numbers in the domain name, is this legit?" followed by "I can't believe that domain was actually available!" I'm sure I'm overthinking it. The fact that it immediately piqued my curiosity is probably a boon, too. Just got me thinking about experimenting with names as well as product, which is often not given much thought.

I like the "1 Brand" name on it's own. From a guy that often just buys a domain because I think it's a cool idea, that was a great pickup.

Popping my head up for air. Super busy week (home repair and production deployments at work) got in the way of my previous plans but I'M STILL HERE!

    2019 EPIC

    • 5 paying customers for Automated API
    • grow Threadbase.io by 25 paying users
    • 250 downloads of DotNetNitro artifacts (code or extension)

    MAY EPIC

    • Get content trickling for Threadbase as demonstrated by 4 articles and 4 email chain additions (still optimistic about this)
    • Launch DotNetNitro as demonstrated by live site with link to deployed artifact, downloadable source code for 4 templates, and install-able VS 2019 extension. (on track)
    • Get AutomatedAPI live and running as demonstrated by 10 alpha users (0/10), right now it looks like this might slip due to competing life stuff

    SINCE LAST WE SPOKE:

    • [DNN] Deployed Open Source Library with 2 initial template bases and outlined plans for three more...which actually over delivers on May epic.
    • [Automated API] Scoped the changes and current status, just need to find time for execution.
    • refined my general approach to how I want to blog on all products, which led me to mostly finish a redesign of my consulting site. Should be publishing that update soon.

    IN THE PIPE:

    • [DNN] Finish 1 more template and get it in the github site
    • [DNN] Get the Templates into a VS extension.
    • [Threadbase] Research and write 4 more emails in one sitting, then plan review sessions before actually getting them in the Mailchimp pipe.
    • [Major but pretty great distraction from all other considerations] Birthday party for the GF.

    KUDOS:
@genemachine love the site, and really like the concept. Welcome to the threads.
@Harlem nice to see that number move upward this week, and great work getting that recording done

    WIP:
DotNetNitro.com - I've realized this one mostly works for me only because I can ethically justify committing down-time at work to making some progress.

...This one mostly works for me only because I can ethically justify committing down-time at work to making some progress.

What does that mean? As a side hustle?

      1. 1

Kinda, I'm thinking about it more as a lead funnel for consulting and for Automated API right now, but if it picks up I may think about a premium version of some kind.

    2. 1

Thanks Jim! Threadbase looks really cool! Is there a demo for Reddit, HN, PH lookalikes?

      1. 1

Thanks, I actually acquired that one a couple months ago. I see potential there and want to keep it alive. Still working through some things as I'm not native to the language it's built on. The transition process was a learning experience for sure, but I'm only now starting to really get into going through bugs and extending some things.

One of the original founders, @darksh1nobi, wrote up a piece demoing the HN style last year.

        1. 1

I see. I would love to see a community that resembles IH (not a copy, but something with similar comment system, profiles and post functions). I would pay for that!

    • [Magnus Rush] 12k MAU for the App: (65/12k)
    • [Announcr] Build prototype and try to sell it to a customer

    May Goals

    • [Magnus Rush] Automate podcast outbound emails based on user activity: 100% Complete
    • [Magnus Rush] Invite 30 podcasts to the platform: 5/30 Done
    • [Announcr] Validate business interest with 10 survey responses/interviews: 4/10
    • [Announcr] Sign one customer for a paid pilot: 0/1
    • [Announcr] Prototype Consumer App for live demos: 91% Complete
    • [Announcr] Prototype Location Client App for live demos: 73% Complete

    YESTERDAY

    • [Announcr] Added SoundFX library and intro Music functionality, now a user can pick a brief intro clip or sound effect to play before/after their announcement
    • [Announcr] New consumer app ability to generate and play an AWS Polly clip based on a text payload with SSML support. New pitch/rate functions to "excite" a particular phrase
    • [Announcr] Added location arrival announcements. Now, based on GPS coords, a user will receive an audio welcome and a popup screen in the app with promotions and messaging from the store/restaurant they're visiting. Promotions can be whatever, maybe coupons or notifications that something I buy a lot is on sale. Interesting implications for QSR drive-throughs! The message is set in the backend, and personalized by an AWS Polly voice selected per location
    • [Announcr] Added quick on/off toggles to the main screen to quickly adjust announcement profile preferences
    • [Announcr] Created new dev update video: https://youtu.be/x9Hfo2ISlgQ and sent it out to my Twitter peeps

    TODAY

    2. 2

Nice job on that referral from the VP. Way to pivot a job interview!

      1. 1

Thanks, @jpusateri. Yeah, the job hunting process is way too labor intensive to leave interviews w/out any positive results.
