    1. Finish writing "User Interview Field Guide". I've had a lot of fun getting out of my comfortable zone - i.e. the air-conditioned room - and talked to real users. I've learned a lot from them which I couldn't even imagine. Would like to share how to prepare for it.
    2. Add notifications to Mindful Goals.

Congrats on stepping out of your comfort zone. What's your top tip for stepping out and talking to real users?

Mindful Goals looks great. I’ve been using ‘Habit List’ for years. Mostly happy with it minus a few gripes.

      1. 2

what works well and what doesn't?

        My top tip is:

Prepare a question list, 8 - 15 questions related to the problem. Don't even have to memorize them. I wrote them down and tell the interviewee I'll be asking them some questions.

That way it's easier to manage the fear of running out of things to talk about with the users and wasting their time.

The questions should all be around the problem itself, and make no attempt to prescribe a solution to the user. That way people can really help me brainstorm instead of telling me: i like this, i don't like that - things I already know.

"The questions should all be around the problem itself, and make no attempt to prescribe a solution to the user." — Great point. Thanks.

What works well with Habit List?

          • It's simple and intuitive
          • Fast (Easily handles streaks over 1k days)

          What could be improved?

          • I'd like the ability to have once-a-month habits. (The farthest they allow users to zoom out is weekly)
          • And the ability to pause habits without losing history or obstructing views. (To prevent overwhelm, I cap the number of daily habits. Sometimes I want to test new habits before deleting old ones.)

They don't allow you to add habits that you want to do N times a day. I hacked together my own solution by entering 'Listen to 3 Podcasts' instead of expecting to tick off 'Listen to Podcast' three times.

Overall, I love it and probably use it more than any other tool.

          1. 1

Very impressive that you can keep a streak for 1k days lol. How many minutes do you spend on the app every day?

            1. 1

The screen time app is showing an average of 20m a day.

And to be fair, I allow for catchup/backfilling if I ever miss a day :)

    EPIC
Launch https://repobox.io to early access customers with full npm and composer support.

    Yesterday

    • Worked more on documentation around our API platform so that you can use Repobox almost completely whitelabeled.
    • Debugging more on maven support. There is practically zero UX when deploying things using maven.
      Today
    • Talking to some early access customers about features they would like to see, and more of their "v1 gotta haves" to make sure we fit like a glove.

    Shout Outs 🎉
@maxshash of DeployPlace fame for really grinding at it and getting a retargeting campaign set up that drove a lead back!

Complete Chapter 2 Draft — Content Marketing for B2B SaaS Founders

    1. 2

Great content! Read the table of contents, looks like these insights might be useful even though I'm not building a SaaS. However I can see that you've got a lot of other playbooks on the website, is there a particular one you would recommend for a marketing newbie?

      1. 2

Thanks! I agree. A lot of these strategies go beyond B2B SaaS.

I noticed that your working on carmakernews.com. In terms of recommendations, I've only looked at a few companies outside of B2B SaaS. (Google, Uber, Amazon and Tesla)

I haven’t done anything on content creators or media companies. I think the industry is fascinating. I think newcomers are niching hard. They're not trying to boil the ocean. Their audience knows what to expect from their point of view. And this bodes well for targeting and ad-supported models.
