Wanted to share a personal story with agency owners in this group that I think many of you might relate to. π
A couple of years ago, I took on a project that, on paper, seemed straightforward. My team and I did our usual breakdown, estimated the hours, and even added our trusty buffer. Confidently, I quoted the client.
Fast forward a few weeks, and it was clear we were heading into overtime. The project was more intricate than we'd anticipated, and those "minor" changes the client requested? They added up. π
I remember the late nights, the stress of potentially disappointing a client, and the realization that we were bleeding hours without compensation. It was a tough pill to swallow.
What did I learn? π€
It was this experience that made me realize the importance of having a robust, developer-friendly time tracking system. One where my team felt comfortable and where I could get real insights without invading their privacy.
I'm in a much better place with my estimations now - finally - thanks to lessons learned and tools that prioritize both accuracy and privacy. And while tools like timegram have been game-changers for me, the real message here is to always learn, adapt, and communicate.
Would love to hear your stories! Have you ever faced a similar situation? How did you handle it? Let's learn from each other. π
