The success rate of your website pop ups will boil down to the 3 P’s, which are Prominence, Proof and Promise.
Pop ups containing just one of the 3 P’s will help increase your conversion rate, but they work best if all of them are present.
Now before I go on, you must remember that pop ups are annoying, and some people really hate them. However, when done right, pop ups can be extremely beneficial and effective for you. So, make sure you do them right. By that I mean pop ups which have been designed well, have good context and are not offering a spin to win or some other gimmick.
You can start getting results today by including the 3 P’s.
The 3’Ps
Pop ups need to be visually prominent on your page if you want to grab your visitor’s attention and earn their engagement.
The more creative your design, the better. Location, colour contrast, fonts and graphics are all important factors you need to get right.
After prominence has grabbed their attention, let your reader know exactly what they are getting from you. If it’s a newsletter, give them an insight into what content to expect and how often they will receive it.
If you want to send product updates and discounts, tell them what to expect so they don’t get frustrated when they start receiving unexpected discount codes.
With a promise you’re giving your visitor a reason to sign up, if your pop up only contains a sign up form with no context, you guessed it, your conversion rate will go nowhere.
Using social proof will supercharge your conversion rate. People are influenced by what other people like, recommend and promote. It’s a security net that makes people feel more comfortable making decisions. Like the decision to subscribe to your newsletter. If your visitors see that over 1000 people have already signed up to a newsletter, that’s proof of it’s worthiness and your conversion rate will skyrocket.
There are more factors to creating a pop up that works, but Including the 3 P’s turn any good pop up into a great one and your conversion rate will prove that.
BONUS email pop up tip
Give your website visitors time to browse your website before your triggered pop up makes an appearance. Your visitors haven’t come to your website to see your pop up so give them time to browse.
Look at your average session time and try and choose an appropriate delay for your pop up. There is no perfect time for a pop up to appear, but what doesn’t work is having them appear immediately.
