Hey IH,
We need to talk about the most dangerous stage of any indie project: the "90% done" mark.
It’s that point where the core features are built, the auth works, and you can technically use the product. But the last 10%—the landing page copy, the Stripe integration, the user onboarding—feels like an impossible mountain to climb.
This is where projects die. This is the graveyard.
I’ve been stuck in this trap more times than I can count. After analyzing my own failures, I realized the problem isn't laziness. It's a combination of decision fatigue and resource mismatch.
I built my platform, Startives, as a system to break out of this trap. Here’s the framework, based on the platform's features:
The Solution: Use a live community feed like our Startalks to get a quick pulse check. Post a screenshot and ask, "I'm stuck on this. Is this even a problem worth solving?" The immediate feedback from other builders will tell you if you should push through or pivot.
2. The "Resource" Check: Is it a skill gap or a will gap?
If it's a "will" gap (you're just not passionate anymore): This is where you need to accept that the project is now an asset. Don't delete it. Sell it. The code you wrote is a massive head start for someone else. List it on the Startives Marketplace (or similar places like Microns). It’s a "micro-exit" that gives you cash and closure.
If it's a "skill" gap (you hate marketing/design): Don't try to be a hero. This is the moment to find a co-founder. Your 90% built product is the perfect pitch. You're not selling a dream; you're offering a working machine that just needs a driver. Use our co-founder matching to find a "Visionary" who loves the 10% you hate.
The "90% Trap" isn't a dead end. It's a fork in the road.
By treating your "almost-done" project as an asset, you can either find the right partner to cross the finish line or sell it to someone who will.
My goal with Startives is to turn this point of failure into a point of opportunity.
