A spate of layoffs is just the first sign of trouble for early-stage companies facing an economic downturn.
"Since January, nearly 50 startups have made significant layoffs, according to data collected by Layoffs.fyi."
It seems that the recent economic downturn has rattled many startups' outlook on the future. While this might be bad news for individuals and companies, I'm curious what the silver lining might be. Perhaps there will be a new crop of indie hackers born from this mass exodus.
Startups that planned to IPO in 2022 have largely postponed their plans, and public tech companies such as Uber have decided to reduce marketing spending and hiring. Larger companies, such as Meta, have already implemented hiring freezes and warned employees that layoffs are possible.
Crazy times for sure! With a bear market, companies are feeling the squeeze.
Many companies that have announced layoffs in the last month or soo were fattened up during the pandemic. Seems like the lean times are now here.
