The best outreach channel is wherever strangers write paragraphs

Everyone picks outreach channels by asking "where is my audience?"

Wrong question. Your audience is on all of them.

The better question: where do strangers explain their own problems, unprompted, in full sentences?

Here's our reply rate by channel — same product, same person writing:

Reddit — 20.6%
LinkedIn — ~14%
X — ~9%
YouTube — ~6%
Cold email — ~1%

For a long time I read that as a ranking of audience quality. It isn't. Reddit users aren't inherently friendlier than YouTube commenters.

It's a ranking of context.

A Reddit post is someone writing four paragraphs about what they tried, what broke, and what they're doing instead. They hand you the entire problem before you say a word. You barely have to write — you just have to have read.

LinkedIn gives you less. A short update, a job title, some polish laid over the pain.

X compresses everything into one sentence. Half the signal is gone before you arrive.

YouTube comments are thinnest of all, because the person is reacting to someone else's video — not describing their own week.

Cold email sits near 1% because there's no context at all. You're guessing, at scale.

So the pattern is simple: reply rate tracks how much a platform forces people to explain themselves.

You can use this today without any tool. Rank your channels by paragraph length, not audience size. Spend your hour where people write the most. Then open by quoting the specific thing they said, not the category they belong to.

"saw you're rebuilding onboarding after that churn spike" beats "i help saas founders with retention" every time — and the only reason you can write the first one is that they already told you.

The uncomfortable corollary: if a channel gives you no context, no amount of clever copy fixes it. You're not writing badly. You're writing blind. That's why the "improve your subject line" advice never moved anything for me — I was optimizing the wrong end.

Across 27,178 conversations, that spread has held remarkably steady. It's the most useful thing I know about outbound, and it cost me a year to learn.

Question for you: where do your customers explain themselves in the most detail — and are you actually spending time there, or where it's just more comfortable to post?

The part that stood out was the distinction between audience quality and context quality.

I'm curious whether you arrived at that conclusion from the reply-rate data first, or whether you noticed the pattern in conversations before the numbers confirmed it.
