The billionaires behind a push to reinvigorate U.S. chip-making

A group — which includes Eric Schmidt and Peter Thiel — isn’t simply funding the effort itself: It wants American taxpayers to help foot the bill.

    paywalled. Also the guys listed aren't in the chip business at all.

    I think US do need to do more on semiconductor as it's a key technology. Semi isn’t sexy but it’s essential

    I don't like this.

    I realize that we are in a chip shortage. It's making it hard on businesses everywhere.

    However, we don't need more billionaires — as well as former government officials, like Ashton B. Carter, former secretary of defense, and H.R. McMaster — coming in to take over a vital pipeline of our economy.

    It concerns me to see so few of people dictating such a giant part of the economy, chips included.
