The blind spots in my building-in-public strategy that 65 posts exposed

65 IH posts. 32 dev.to articles. 10 posts in the last 24 hours alone. $0 revenue.

here are the blind spots i didnt see until i mapped out every post and its result.

blind spot 1: confusing activity with progress

posting feels productive. writing content, hitting publish, watching comments come in. but none of that is sales activity. posting is marketing theater unless it reaches buyers.

blind spot 2: optimizing for the wrong metric

IH comments and engagement felt like validation. but engagement from builders who will never buy agency data is not validation. the only metric that matters is: did someone who does cold outreach see this?

blind spot 3: spreading across 7 channels instead of dominating 1

IH, dev.to, reddit, HN, gumroad, linkedin, cold email. seven channels, none getting enough attention to build real traction. should have picked one channel where buyers exist and gone all in.

blind spot 4: building products before finding buyers

26 products on gumroad built from guessing. the only product with a clear buyer persona is the $19 agency list. everything else is noise.

what im changing

  1. one product: $19 agency contact list
  2. one channel: wherever SDR managers and salespeople hang out
  3. one metric: qualified visitors who download the free sample
