The draft is finished. Why does publishing still take so long?

We've been thinking a lot about the gap between finishing a draft and actually publishing it.

The writing might be done, but there can still be a long checklist:

Formatting, cleanup, SEO, slug, preview, final checks...

Each task is small, but together they can become a surprisingly frustrating part of the workflow.
