The economics of native macOS software development

Hello there!

After exiting my previous business, I took some time to evaluate where to put my next efforts.

One of these options came in the form of a native macOS app I would like to bring to the world.

I'm trying to better understand the economics of a company developing and commercialising native macOS products. I have some concerns that I might be too late to the macOS software heyday and also I may be overestimating the market size of users valuing native macOS apps —in place of lower quality Electron-ish alternatives.

Any Indie Hacker here is running a business based on a native macOS app that can help me to better understand if the time and cost investment would be worth it?
