The first ever African Indie Hackers meet-up in Abuja, Nigeria

Ahoy indie hackers. It's been a minute since I wrote to you all here.

For a while now, I have been writing about indie hacking and educating indie hackers via the Building Businesses on JavaScript Newsletter/Podcast.

In the newsletter I write about topics from What is Indie Hacking to Building needs, not wants and on the podcast I bring indie hackers that are building products on the web with JavaScript across the stack.

This newsletter arose from a need to nurture more african indie hackers as I have a vision of inspiring 100,000 indie hackers in the continent.

From interactions and comments on Twitter/X I perceived most folks in Nigeria and Africa at large didn't know what indie hacking is(in fact some folks actually thought indie hacker means an Indian hacker 😅😭)

As part of this drive, I ambitiously decided to have meetups of indie hackers and would-be indie hackers in the continent starting from Abuja, Nigeria.

Honestly I didn't think much of it or whether much folks will show up as its a rare kind of meet-up and one that has never been done in Nigeria before.

However, yesterday the first ever meetup help with over 12(after having 15 folks register for the meet-up so that's 80% of folks) indie hackers in attendance.

The meet-up was a resounding success as a lot of folks was inspired by the meet-up and had most of their questions answered.

I am looking forward to hosting the next meet-up which will happen in late February or early March, 2024 in Lagos and the one that follows will be at Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

I am really excited by this as I want to see more africans build digital products for global usage from Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, or whatever African countries they are.

I'm also planning an annual African Indie Hackers Summit, for which the first one will happen in 2024 and that's so exciting.
