The First Feature We Cut (and Why It Saved Us Weeks)

When we started sketching our MVP, we wanted it to “wow” users. Naturally, that meant brainstorming dozens of features, all of which felt “essential” at the time.

But halfway through, we asked ourselves a hard question: What if we launched without this feature? Would the product still deliver value?

Surprisingly, the answer was yes for more than half of what we planned.

So we cut:

  • Fancy dashboards
  • Automated integrations
  • A personalized onboarding flow

What remained was a lean core that solved the exact pain point we set out to address.

The result? We launched weeks faster, and early users didn’t even notice what was missing. They only cared that the main problem was solved.

Lesson learned: sometimes the fastest way forward is to remove, not add.

Curious, what’s the toughest feature you had to cut while building? Did you regret it or was it the right call?
