The hackathon is over! Who launched what?
Hi all,
It's December 1st, which means the hackathon is over. Who launched a project? (Or is looking to launch soon?)
I managed to get something out the door (just barely).
If you're already in the holiday spirit and want to spend the holidays consuming large quantities of great food without guilt, you should join the challenge...
Basically, the idea is to do 20 push ups a day in December. That way, you'll be fit by Christmas while also getting ahead of everyone making new year's resolutions ;-)
For those that need a slight push, there's the possibility to bet $15 on you completing the challenge. If you don't, I'll donate your $15 to charity!
I had to cut a lot of corners to ship this, but I'm pretty proud I managed. That's all that counts :-) Full story is on longgoals.io

A 30 day hackathon is pretty strange, I'm used to more like 30 hours, so I did more than one project :)

Deaton hasn't officially launched yet, in beta, but ready for users.
I did Deaton alone, but had a different partner for the other two.
It was a lot of fun, and am looking forward to seeing all the other projects!

I was thinking I probably should have submitted Hackathon Match too, but that might have been taking things too far :)
Had a lot of fun streaming the first part of Wallet List. I think I might stream design more.
Looking forward to sharing all the completed projects soon! We're digging through the submissions, sharing with judges.

Well done on launching, and especially on getting your first customer, that's awesome! And congratulations on the new baby, you sure picked an interesting time to do a month long hackathon... ;) It gets easier as they get older don't worry.
I completed the hackathon, although was too busy focused on building to actually get any subscribers for my Ship page, so all of the emails to my 'fans' were just to me, so didn't really get the full benefit. :/ Will hopefully be able to use it 'properly' soon.
I'm thinking I'll hold off on launching for a couple of more weeks to keep working on the site - it works end-to-end as is, but isn't really ready for primetime as yet. I think I got most of my followers from a couple of retweets from "famous" twitterers.
I tried tweet my slides just now. It already looks way better than my project ;-) Had a slight issue uploading my pptx though (server 500). Maybe you're working on it right now?

I used Bulma (similar to Bootstrap) to style the app, would recommend it as a CSS framework, it's very simple and intuitive.
I submitted Culture Queries, which helps job seekers prepare questions for their job interviews. I'm still making improvements though!
Also, I noticed you asked, "Who launched his project?" in your post. I know there aren't enough women in the IH forum yet, or really enough female developers anywhere, but hopefully that'll change.

I love the submission btw. Personally, I would want to know about attention to environmental impact too, is that something you're looking to include in the values?

Thanks, I haven't heard anyone suggest that one yet! Can you say a little more about why you value environmental impact, and maybe provide examples of companies who do and don't share this value?
Ps. Thank you! I didn't realize how much impact little things like that can have on certain individuals, so I've also been trying to be more thoughtful of the language I use, and be more inclusive.
Hi Lynne, I would rather work somewhere where I know we're not using up additional resources without (at least) replenishing them. To me, we're at the point where this is important.
An example is Patagonia, which has a long track record of being environmentally friendly and just a couple of days ago changed its frontpage due to an issue it feels deeply about.

I didn't launch mine but I enjoyed the process. I've always built side projects which died in my bedroom :) and this time, I wanted to launch a few of the ideas I've always wanted to work on. I didn't launch but what I built is usable. I plan on launching early next year and get people/products that'll use it while I work on making it ready.

I haven't launched yet, but I made a ton of progress on Feedbeaver.
Almost up to 100 subscribers on my Ship page, and about a dozen people or so beta testing the app.
Looking to launch early next year, as there is still a ton of things to improve and iterate, but the hackathon was definitely a great motivational tool to actually get started. I'm planning to write a small blogpost about the process of building an audience from scratch and the experience of this first month building a startup, maybe early next week I'll have something to share :)
Same here, I had the idea for a while but the hackathon helped me to focus on it.

Wow, how did you get so many signups to your Ship page?
I submitted by website to a lot of startup aggregators and stuff and paid for some featured promotions. Total cost was about $200 so around $2 per signup, but to be fair a lot of the signups were driven by free traffic, so the real cost is actually higher than that.
I will put together a small write-up about the process. 100 subscribers is definitely not something huge, but without any kind of previous audience I think it was a decent amount.

Some quick feedback on longgoals - when you first register it says "Welcome null" instead of your user name.
It would also be good to be able to add push ups for a date before I signed up so I can retroactively start the challenge from the 1st.
Looks good, I'm trying to do something vaguely similar with tracking spending - do you build this with rails by any chance?

I'll look into the "welcome null" thing. I fixed some bugs over the weekend, but it seems that one remains.
For the dates, normally you should be able to select a date before your join date (I'm not doing any validation on that). Did you try clicking on the date field and changing the date?
Btw: is your project already public? I'm not using rails for longgoals, I'm trying out google firebase because it should allow me to move faster. Still learning though..
when you log old ones, it shows up in the "I've done my push-ups!" section as part of the total, but not as an entry in the history - would be good if it was a new entry as well.
No, my project isn't public yet, still need to get it to at least MVP level.
