The hardest part of writing a newsletter is not writing
I have a realization after writing 10 newsletters since I started 3 months ago.
Which is, the hardest part is not writing, it is the steps before writing: organizing thoughts and curating ideas!
When I figure out a system to:
- Curate ideas into my inbox so that I can read twice a week
- Write down ideas and thoughts that "pop up" through the week on a Notion page
I find that writing is actually easy because you know exactly what to say.
I don't know if anyone out here finds writing their newsletters hard, maybe this can help a little!
Hey Kevon! I'm working on a micro saas newsletter myself, what I did was, I created a doc with all the high level headings and sub headings to the point that each of these subheadings could be easily written, that is, they become super specific. What do you think about this?
Yea a good idea - I also find outlining it first a good practice. This way ideation and writing are totally split up and they yield better results!
I write at Micro SaaS Idea and I pretty much use Google sheets to organize thoughts for my newsletter.

Do you write original content or curate? I do the latter and it's much easier, I go on autopilot.
I create my own content, so I jot down ideas throughout the week so that when I sit down I have something to work with. Pretty hard though when life is so busy!
Totally agree. Knowing that to talk about is sometimes hard. Writers' block is often writers' indecision: you have lots of good ideas, and swing between them not knowing which is the "right one" to choose... and then days pass without actually doing any of them.
Notion has been great. I too schedule things in Notion, and then it's really straightforward. I just have to look at my calendar and say: "Ah, okay... for next week I have to write 1000 words / 3000 words about X" And then I do it.
I use Notion for planning content, newsletters and life in general — it works great!
Spot on! Chopping into small pieces really helps. Feels like writing is getting more and more important for everyone!
