The Idea Behind Corate

I built Corate after noticing something that surprised me.

While researching the short-term rental market, I expected most Airbnb hosts to rely on pricing software. Instead, I found that many independent hosts still manually compare nearby listings before adjusting their prices.

The reasons were surprisingly consistent:

  • Pricing tools can be expensive for just one or two properties.

  • Many are built for professional property managers, not individual hosts.

  • Hosts often don't trust recommendations when they can't see the reasoning behind them.

That made me think: what if there was a much simpler way?

Instead of trying to automate pricing, I built Corate to answer one question:

"Is my listing priced above or below the market?"

No black box. No AI making decisions for you. Just a transparent market snapshot based on real nearby competitors.

I'm still validating the idea and talking with hosts every week. It's been a great reminder that sometimes the best product isn't the one with the most features—it's the one that solves a specific problem simply.

I'd love to hear how other founders discovered the problem that led them to build their product.

I like that you're resisting the urge to automate the decision itself.

A lot of pricing tools ask hosts to trust an algorithm. You're helping them build confidence in their own pricing decisions by making the market easier to understand. That's a very different relationship with the user, especially for independent hosts.
