I built the first version of my app that I'm happy with and asked a few friends to have a look.
Got some minor comments on things that never occurred to me (e.g. why doesn't it do dark mode if my phone is in dark mode?) so I implemented those - but this immediately showed how important it is to get other eyes on it. As many and as varied as possible.
Because while it is about bug hunting, it's also about what's important to the users (in this example it's a basic feature which has absolutely nothing to do with the app itself). And then, naturally, if the app itself brings value to the user.
This post is here as a reminder of the importance of building in public and to ask everyone here to help me build in public by getting eyes on my app.
Will you join the Google tester group and put a pair of eyes on my app?
Group link: https://groups.google.com/g/moneypace-testing
Then opt into testing and get the app here: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.kresimir.moneypace
Please be the loud voice that leaves feedback for me - email, comments, form, however you want to.
A thank you to those who joined! More testers are always welcome :)
Update on what happened - simple things get noticed. And this allows you to quickly check and fix or investigate. A minor button position was wrong and there was a situation which felt it should warrant a warning in the app. This is extremely helpful!
How are the rest of you building in public?
