The job is a waste of time
Every day that passes I think more and more about quitting my job to start my online startup business. The problem is not the fear of failing on the new adventure but starting the business well before leaving. So I decided to do a market research first before developing an MVP.
This time I don't see the beginning of a business as a beautiful and exciting thing to work with but as a way to create value and earn money by spending the minimum and raising funds at the right time.
The scope is mobile development (iOS or Android). The problem to be solved is the slow and expensive development of a mobile application for small businesses. The idea is to make the development of an application accessible even without programming knowledge and to deliver the product online with all the required features.
Let's look at how the development of any application product now works:
- The customer, whether it is a small or medium-sized company, looks for an agency or a mobile development team to assign them the job
- After days of research and estimates, he decides to bargain only with one
- Start development, including design, development, testing, and various changes along the way
- The minimum development can last from 1 to N months
- Distribution of the app that lasts up to 1 day
- Test and maintenance of the app
- New features in progress
All these steps are long and expensive. After a search I saw that there are also other platforms like BuildFire, Appypie, Appsgeyser that allow you to develop applications without code. However, I have not yet understood why developers do not use these types of platforms to develop new applications. What are the limits?
What am I missing, do small and medium-sized companies want to spend more or less?
I think you're missing the fact that these app builders work until they don't. What happens when a client requests something very specific that can't be done in an app made with an app builder. You either export the code and then manually add the feature, but then the code might be very unintelligible compared to human written code and you also lose the ability to use the builder for features in the future, or you just have to contact the app builder team and hope they will add the feature to the app.
So even if hiring developers costs more time and money upfront it removes these kind of headaches in the future.
When I worked in one company I saw it. One dev, when asked how much time he needed to implement the authentication for our web site, said "2 weeks". "Why would you use the out-of-box solution?" I asked then and they hissed at me as if I said something indecent.
