The Beginning: Why I Started
It all started with a simple question: why isn’t there a tool that recreates the magic of random Pokémon encounters?
As a developer and lifelong Pokémon fan, I noticed everything was either too complex (full Pokedex apps) or too limited. So I built RandomPokemonGen.fun - a simple web tool that generates random Pokémon with smart filters.
The Build: Keeping It Simple
I launched with just the core feature: random generation. There are no accounts, payments, or complexity—just pure Pokémon discovery.
The tech stack was equally simple:
Vanilla JavaScript
PokeAPI
Responsive CSS
No frameworks, no bloat
The Growth: Beyond Expectations
The surprise came quickly. Within weeks:
50,000+ Pokémon generated
Organic traffic from Pokémon communities
Global users across 50+ countries
Zero marketing spend
Key Lessons Learned:
Solve Your Own Problem - I built what I wanted to use
Simple Beats Complex - One great feature > ten mediocre ones
Community is Everything - Pokémon fans are incredibly supportive
Passion Fuels Persistence - When you love what you build, you keep improving
The Numbers:
Monthly Users: 2,000+
Pages/Session: 3.2
Avg. Time: 2.5 minutes
Bounce Rate: 35%
